im far from an expert but it would replace the competition between the best clubs of the different leagues (champions league) into a competition of the richest clubs, where they would be guaranteed a space based on their status even tho they arent the best teams (besides a few spots to rotate). and my understanding is that it would hurt smaller clubs as well because they would have less of a chance to qualify, if any. Like there would be much less incentive for clubs to finish in the top 4 of premier league. an example that's easy to see is that Leicester is much better than Arsenal and Spurs rn, but the latter would gain an automatic permanent spot in the super league just cuz theyre rich

all the domestic leagues were mad also and threatening punishment for the clubs, some people even saying there was a possibility of kicking them out of the leagues (maybe far fetched). and pretty sure they would have been kicked out of champs league as well

also worse for the players themselves because it would mean a lot more games and traveling internationally during the middle of the week
