I’d like to point out that the sweet and sour sauce line is EQUALLY as corny/immature compared to “let’s have a toast for the douchebags/I sent this girl a picture of my d***” it’s just the racial context that makes it worse lol

don't even get me started on the untapped potential of that song, the 2 minute leak is one of the craziest things he's ever done. such a pure euro brutalist 808's dark fantasy post-yeezus Amalgamation

yea bro he was moving very different in that era, it’s obvious something happened to him creatively in 2014 and i can’t for the life of me figure it out

maybe it’s having kids, maybe it was the marriage, maybe it was refocusing on fashion, but idek i shouldn’t be stressed about it but i feel like we were robbed of so much potentially genre altering art

tlop was a really great album, but it was by any and all means a couple steps backwards creatively. it had felt like he had went back to pleasing audiences and imo begins the trend of phoning in verses, letting others do the heavy production work, etc.

idk mane ik yeezus was his lowest performing opening week but it had still done crazy numbers for the level of experimentation he was on. all the one off singles, snl wolves version, had this crazy potential for some of his best work. it felt like he learned sm about minimalism from rubin, and he was applying it to all the kinds of music he wanted to make. everything just felt so... tight.

everything after that feels blatantly rushed. like not even trying to hide the fact that it’s rushed. and there’s something cool about that, but idk it lost its charm by “ye”. finding out he was writing verses on the way to listening parties...

only ye could do that, but man imagine if he tried again.
i hate to see it but i think crawling himself out of debt and proving to be the best financially got to him.

sweet and sour line is corny

i feel like ppl really don’t understand the irony of this record

the whole tour was based off the holy mountain and i feel like ppl gotta watch that movie to understand

yeezus quite honestly feels like kanye at his most self aware. i mean he makes it clear with on sight.

i feel like outside the context of the record a lot of these lines are wack, esp i’m in it and send it up. i came to love those songs though, but strictly for the instrumentation.

but that’s out of context, they have crazy energy on the actual songs. not every track hits thematically, and sometimes it feels like he leans too heavy on to the character but man.

there’s just something about the energy in this record thst can’t be replicated. it’s not the thrashy grunge vibes of death grips ppl love to try and compare to. it feels like the after party of your dreams/nightmares.

it feels like the fantasy came true with all of its beauty and grotesqueness

yeah you're describing perfectly the loop in my head of trying to figure it out myself, lmao

from the day kanye did snl for tlop I knew he was done. seeing his transition from yeezus to tlop wasn't some calculated shift of the culture it was someone who equally wanted his pop relevancy back and didn't want to try anymore from an artistic level. kanye never relied on his status as a crutch it was just a contrastive element to an alienated psyche/persona...when people talk about rappers being rockstars and s*** they completely disregard that element, and how kanye tapped into that so effectively. i wouldn't be upset about it if he bowed out with grace but knowing that every antic/beef/half baked album is all a product of his insecurity that stems from not being able to be as big as drake post-2013 musically leaves me so uninspired to reminisce on the high points of his career. im sure the business side of him doing music plays as big of a part if not bigger, but not having that state-of-the-culture voice that he provided for so many years has completely shattered the cross-cultural/collaborative synergy that made pop/mainstream hip hop so fun from '10-16ish. I hope kdot Tyler or frank approach their next era's with an effort to bridge these gaps effectively again.
