what doesnt make sense to me is the efficiency of mutation transfer to offspring

only germ line mutations are passed onto offspring, and i imagine these comprise <1% of all mutations in the body, plus in theory only one organism would experience this mutation at a given time, which means this trait would have to be exceptionally helpful to allow for one organism to survive at a higher rate than normal and pass their genes on.

We assume that this all works because evolution takes FOREVER, which i think makes sense, because within the scope of human civilization we havent rly seen any mutation that led to substantial differences in humans across generations. But i think this random mutation hypothesis mixed with darwinian natural selection would be too random and inefficient to actually cause evolution to readily occur

this leads me to believe that there must be another mechanism besides random mutation and natural selection guiding evolution. it could be some weird energy potential that cells learn to minimize (think entropy) via gene expression, or maybe something else idk.

but whats cool is in theory we should be able to make a statistical model that predicts whether evolution could occur purely through random mutation.

ive thought about this a lot paired with my knowledge of biology, and tbh i think natural selection/random mutations actually is a plausible model for evolution and that if anything we are just missing details that optimize the process

another thing, people who dont understand science talking about whether or not science makes sense are so aggravating, and theyll be like oh but i studied this in high school/college but yea u got a D sorry buddy
