pull up the top 100 albums from each year and its not even close. 1971 is so much deeper its crazy. maybe 1966 has a claim over it if youre only comparing the top 5 classic albums or singles but no way as a whole

71 had Master of Reality so it wins by default

not sure what my favorite 5 year stretch is maybe 1991-1995

i was being kinda hyperbolic when i said it s***s on 71 but now that im home looking at my library i agree with myself. of course there was more variety in 71 as the core genres expanded but i care more about what exactly my goats were releasing.

this is ignoring all the psych nuggets of '66 too. dont know why youre surprised i think this considering the psych era was over by '71 (and my distaste for 70s soul). '66 had twice as many goats peaking as '71.

tbh it partly bad luck for 1971 that it just missed mosterpieces from Stooges, Neil, Stones etc etc

I'm way way way more into the vibe of 66. early psych, late period brit invasion, spector, peak motown and all the other stuff going on in the mid 60s. The cool d**** just showed up, the bad ones were still a ways off and experimentation in rock and roll was a new idea by comparison 1971 was very bad vibes. Hendrix was dead. Otis was dead. Beatles broke up. Stones devoted themselves to Satan. Dylan totally aimless.

At least they had glam rock

a 5 year stretch is so hard. 95-2000 maybe.

2007-13 wasnt 5 years but felt like a whole zenith to me personally
