i thought so too when it came out but i listened to it when rvi posted for the first time in 1000 years and immediately saw it at basically a pop committee product. not really an aerosmith fan but its pretty clear this didnt come from them at all.

Looking back I was surprisingly down with all the Shaniah, Mariah, Cher, Destiny's Child etc pop when I was a rap head teen Madonna the only one I'll intentionally listen to but I didn't mind the rest either

I hated it at the time, but looking back I’ll easily take late 90s/early 2000s pop over the current stuff

I had Madonna as a guilty pleasure when I was a young teen but then had a rager house party when I was like 16 and when Like A Prayer came on every single person turned it into a giant singalong and I couldn't believe it Changed my whole perception on not just Madonna but music cause I didn't think the such a random assortments of skaters, jocks, rich kids, poor kids etc could ever unite around one song like that I was in awe

It was like the opposite of when I got dragged to a Canucks game and couldn't stop observing the crowd wondering why they cared so much

Destiny’s Child at that point was quasi-rap, Mariah also regularly had rap feats. Not too much of a stretch
