    1. Talking Heads - The Name of this Band is Talking Heads
    2. Mission of Burma - Vs
    3. The Dream Syndicate - Days of Wine & Roses
    4. Fear - The Record
    5. The Gun Club - Miami
    6. The Cure - P***ography
    7. Richard & Linda Thompson - Shoot Out The Lights
    8. Misfits - Walk Among Us
    9. Prince - 1999
    10. Tom Verlaine - Words from the Front

(Without jazz. Probably should rank it among the others. Heads would still be #1 tho)

There’s some songs on 1999 I can only describe as “funkabilly”

Just heard so much Stop Making Sense from my dad that I didn't feel the urge to track down another live album. I'm aware thread considers NOTB on another level and I been meaning to to check it.

Watched Melancholia last night, been in a minute since I seen it. Still one hellova flick from Lars, blending his themes of depression/anxiety with dark comedy especially in the first half. One thing I noticed and loved was Charlotte's reaction to the inevitable Vs Kirsten. A nice touch by Lars.

I feel so bad for Charlotte's character in the film. Can very much relate to her OCD/anxiety in the second half. My favorite part of that film is Lars' use of Wagner's Tristan und Isolde. Perfect soundtrack for the end of the world.

The whole cast was great, love Charlotte. That scene with Kirsten laying naked to the glowing planet was another surreal moment.

I like the way the light from the moon/planet illuminates the middleground and background in this scene. It gives the shot this painterly look and coupled with Wagner's score definitely creates the surreal moment you're talking about. We get the sense that the characters are totally isolated from everything, in their own little world.

What did Spielberg do so much better than the original?

It’s about the same level of quality. He just breathes new life into the material. The direction is flawless and every striking image feels like it’s straight out of a dream. There’s an overhead shot just of a man standing in a puddle with the city lights at night reflecting off of it and it looks almost like he ascending into heaven. The original perfectly translates a stage performance to the cinematic form making the best use of editing and perspective. Spielberg goes out of his way to transcend just that, making so many frames feel like moving paintings as played out as that type of description is. There’s shadows clashing before bodies do, colors illuminating on faces, and romance framed behind flowing cloth. The whole thing is borderline surreal.
