Lol yeah I'm not looking into the concentration camps at all
there were enough horrors to read and hear about going on everywhere else
Oh I've done plenty of research on the camps, unfortunately
And when you think that isn't enough you check up on what Japan was doing at the time and it's just
need some more info/convincing before i dive into a 1929 silent experimental documentary
i dont think im ready for experimental films in the slightest
actually watched a film last week tho
maybe like my 10th of the year only if i include documentaries and anime
Okay I found the good version. I don't know what it's called in classical music but there's a movement or whatever around the 40 minute mark just after the guys are jumping hurdles at the track where the music slows down and it's truly f***ing exquisite
merging of music and images. Oh yeah I guess I should mention that there's no talking in this documentary it's just beautiful classical music.

Yeah I also read as much about that as I ever wanted to know when I was like 20

Yeah, stuff of nightmares

Man this documentary I'm watching interviews high-ranking Nazis after they did their (usually way too f***ing small) stint in prison and I got to give it to these documentarians for being objective because a lot of these guys were still, at that time, (early 70s) claiming publicly the Holocaust was hoax and the camps were built by Americans to add to the illusion and lie
I honestly don't know how so many people whose lives were ruined let these guys walk around afterwards talking s*** like this willy-nilly. Well I guess Mossad didn't but there's still a lot of them and I don't mean useful operation paperclip types.
when the former commander of the Nazi extermination camp Treblinka, Kurt Franz, was arrested in 1959 a search of his home yielded a scrapbook with horrific photos of the massacre titled "Beautiful Years."
“Just following orders”

Respect for going (if you had a choice lol) i definitely don't have it in me
“Just following orders”
In most situations that’s a pretty good excuse

This is the wrong dang devil to advocate Fidelio
“Just following orders”
He gave that whole spiel and ended up doing something like 10 years
died in the 90s.
Surviving prisoners say he killed people at random daily, including babies. Would sic his hound on people for fun. Total nutjob.

I wasn’t talking about the Nazi’s though, but more so in how the “just following orders” quote is thrown out there against other examples as if it’s not a good excuse in most situations. This idea that you’re this free agent who’s morality comes to you independently of the material and sociocultural forces around you is absurd.

Wonder why they didn't go exact revenge. Maybe life's not a movie.

There were definitely cases of that happening during the liberations. I remember one story of the prisoners shoving a guard into the ovens alive.
The Russians just stood back and watched like

Oh plenty of revenge exacted the day people are liberated but I mean after Nuremberg and stuff there must have been literal infinite personal vendetta's people had with these commanders that got to continue enjoying life
The Czech resistance successfully assassinating Heydrich Reinhardt
probably the most successful assassination of a bad guy ever

Israel had all the Nazi hunting going down for sure (they drowned Mengele in Brazil) but I cant remember any specific cases of former prisoners being involved. I'd imagine that's what I'd want to do but I can also see just wanting to move on and forget it all.
So your a cinephile now we get it
talked about maybe watching the Shining next time
@VII where was that link?
