is Pet Sounds the most overrated album of the 60s? Let's talk about it..
maybe if Revolver didnt exist
I’ll never understand not getting why something like that is rated so highly. You can personally not resonate with something but still get it. There’s plenty of albums that are universally beloved that don’t blow my mind or anything but I totally comprehend why they’re considered important masterpieces. My taste is not reactionary to what general critics and music historians think. If anything is properly rated, it’s that album.

literally nobody said they don't get why Pet Sounds is beloved

That’s what calling it overrated is
I will kill Pet Sounds
Double killing Pet Sounds? Sounds good, we can award it negative points

overrated can mean, a) overrated to someone personally or b) overrated within the pantheon of music. sounds liek VB was probably using it as a personal statement.

It came off more like b to me
@Aruji i have studied your list thoroughly and unfortunately your Smile by Beach Boys vote does not qualify as a 60s vote as per a random argument/discussion regarding its validity as a 60s album a few weeks ago (it was determined to not be a 60s album).
you come off like a b to me
you come off like a hipster f to me

@Aruji Try and feel those good vibrations and bump Pet Sounds up a bunch to make up for the Smile removal.

How can an album be overrated to someone personally without considering other people's opinions of it?

somebody can call something overrated (even within the context of music history) and still be able to comprehend the reason why others may put it on that pedestal (despite not believing it worthy of that praise).

I’ve always found the conversations around what’s overrated/underrated to be tiresome. Overlooked is a different thing altogether, at least that’s just saying not enough people are talking about it.
Like yea, I understand why people love DSotM (and may call it an all time album). Incredibly crisp production (among the best ever probably), emphasis on the sonic quality of each instrument more than the actual band aspect, but I don't think it deserves the praise it gets

You mean...you think you understand

I don’t like Dark Side very much but I wouldn’t have thrown a fit if it made the top 10 in a bunch of 70’s lists.

you can be a snarky b**** about it and may have different reasons for loving it but from my understanding of people I know IRL, alot of them love it for its production quality and atmosphere (especially for d*** use)

I wouldnt either. Like I said, I understand the appeal and why it's regarded so highly (from conversations I have with people IRL at least). But I will call it overrated til the day I die.
