Top 5 Brazilian pop album, listened to it many times.
Gal's voice
Been getting way back into Modest Mouse again. Lonesome Crowded West finally clicked with me after years of being 100% Moon and Antarctica. Now I realize both are masterpieces.
I don't think that band released a single bad song from 1996 to 2001. Every single one is intense and purposeful.

One of the litmus test GOATs of the genre
I honestly dont think i've ever listened to a full album of his. I just grew up hearing his name and songs played by many different men in my family. There's probably 20-30 of his songs that i dont actually know the name of off the top of my head, but if they came on i would be singing along haha
You def just inspired me to hit up Travis' albums next tho. After going back through some of Alan Jackson's major albums last year, I've been craving to rediscover some classic country from my childhood and dive into certain artists more
Damn hearing some a good country tune makes me wanna rewatch The Thing Called Love. Such a great soundtrack.
And great performances by the lead cast too

I wish they made an entire album of songs like wild pack of family dogs: Short and ironic yet heartfelt
@Elric This old documentary is so weird. Dude at one point says Country House is the worst thing Blur ever recorded, what a dumb take. Someone then compares Don’t Look Back In Anger to Imagine. What?

I genuinely never really heard the similarities. There’s only so many riffs and chord progressions. The actual execution of the song is so dramatically different it’s weird to harp on that. It’s like Sexy Sadie and Karma Police I guess. There’s a similarity at first but they go in totally different directions that it becomes an irrelevant observation.

Always assumed it was intentional
Whatever, point is the documentary stinks. It’s called “Classic Album Under Review” and it’s just a bunch of old critics b****ing about almost every track.
Always assumed it was intentional
Yeah I imagine you'll find an interview somewhere where one of them openly says that they just ripped it off

Don't Look Back in Anger is by far the superior song anyway
That's not that much of an achievement really, Imagine is one of the worst songs ever written

Boring played out take
Most people’s negative takes on popular classic songs can be boiled down to “I heard it too much”.
Boring played out take
It is a pretty boring song though that people only tend to worship cause they think itll bring world peace or some s***

I don’t like it that much but it’s melodically very pretty and pleasant generally. The writing is fine. If I had never heard it before and someone showed it to me it would probably immediately catch my ear and impress me. I feel the same way about all the overplayed classic rock songs from Stairway to Bohemian Rhapsody to even Dream On.
I will admit though that when all those celebs sang Imagine back when covid started I actually despised the song. When I think about it divorced of all of its context I think it’s totally fine.

I think those songs are way better than Imagine and I've heard them all countless times. It's not a hot take to call Imagine a snoozefest.
