ON A TACO TUESDAY
I will be quoting this line very frequently for the foreseeable future and show this to my closest friends
It grew on me for sure. I just don’t think it’s filled with stand out songs, it’s more the general feel of the record as a whole that clicked. The seedy underground party vibes. I’d still rank three of their other albums higher.
I think the “stand out songs” are relative: one could say Rocks Off, Tumbling Dice, Let It Loose and Shine a Light are the stand out songs. But the mixing of the album works perfectly. Makes it sound like you’re in a New Orleans basement in the ‘40s playing music and drinking all night.
Lotta ppl say the vocals are irritating but I always dug them
they are awesome. The vocals are among the best things about the band

Been goin back and forth on Aviary and Tragedy lately. Aviary is so dense and full of sound and nuance to unpack but on the other hand I might prefer the long, ambient-pop pieces on Tragedy
. Aviary is also an hour and a half which in itself is a colossal runtime (probably worth it). That's probably a reason why HOoM might be a bit lower on my 2010s redux. Could have been cut by just a bit despite how monumentally creative the whole thing is

And yeah i agree on the vocals
Got tickets to see George Clanton play 3 hours of Espirit and solo stuff on Halloween with Death's Dynamic Shroud

LA gets the craziest shows
"Another Dream" is so astonishing
starts out and spends most of its runtime as such a beautiful and mystical piece before such an unexpected and seamless turn into a dark swelling of noise, like being sucked into a void. And then "I Shall Love 2" starts up
Julia really my 2010s GOAT
He's a fantastic stroyteller and the music is beautifully arranged but it's all a bit fatiguing y'know? Might be one of those one listen masterpieces 'cause I'm not tryna do repeat listens of an 11 minute domestic abuse novel.
The album is actually better on repeat imo
Anyone that says they can't do British rap just hasn't heard the real good stuff
I gotta take a number 3
@Elric the New Order vibes are strong in this
My big sister had Tragic Kingdom on repeat for the whole mid 90s and I was ok with it

Mars Volta one of the most underrated bands. P4k s***ting on their best stuff convinced so many internet nerds that they suck.

the perception of ska in america is shaded by 3rd wave and s*** like mighty mighty bosstones. 60s jamaican ska and 2 tone is some of the best music made anywhere ever
