She’s not a Madonna or even a Lady Gaga. She’s doing nothing new or interesting or even good pastiche or retro revival. She’s just there making cynically produced material that doesn’t even have the charm of the simplistic cynical pop Max Martin was pumping out at the turn of the century. There is absolutely no reason her legacy as an artist should be elevated in the way in which it has been since the release of 1989. There has never been a more forced narrative in music journalism.

i think the max martin songs that are all over 1989 mostly have that same appeal as the other max martin stuff youre talking about
i just disagree tho i think shes an all time great pop star with some of the best melodies and emotion and ill keep crying to her songs

The singles were very overplayed to the point of nauseating monotony but looking back a few of those songs were really well produced and written, and they stood the test of time. Of course, some of the songs were f***ing awful as well
