they can just say they the lyrics are good without pretending like she made some equivalent of Blonde on Blonde. and when her lyrics are good, clarity and directness is one of her strengths so it's like they're not even praising what she set out to do. Folklore was a little different songwriting style but still, the best lyrical moments are always the ones that immediately cut through

Notiing can just be "good" or "great" anymore. If something is good, then its a once in a generation experimental masterpiece.

pretending taylor swift is and always was a lyrical genius is such a terrible way to go about retroactively praising her and raising up her legacy. she's great because of her pop sensibility above all and i think acting like she was some god level lyricist this whole time is missing the point
