Funny how even after like a decade of time for him to make his mark, I still feel like Drake has never released a great album.

I still think nwts is a great album but it depends what you mean by "great". I'm not giving it a 9 or 10 for example. Would say it's among the best albums of 2013. I 100% feel like Drake has been going downward fast ever since.

Half of NWTS is uninspired/lacklustre tracks, I find it baffling how people rank it over Take Care & IYRTITL.

Same, NWTS barely has has anything worth revisiting and Views has literally nothing what a garbage album. Scorpion has more going for it than either of them.

I like Hold On We’re Going Home but honestly I can’t remember the last time I’ve listened to any of his albums except maybe Take Care for nostalgia.

    He’s just a mid artist with a s*** discography.

For his singles. He’s a struggle singer, average bars, production is middle-of-the-road. His popularity is the reason he’s even mentioned with legends but he doesn’t have the discography to back it up.

  • Mar 2, 2020

Take Care is his best album and I’d give that an 8.

    No

    Care to explain why?

What makes his music so groundbreaking or impactful to list him with legends like Kanye, OutKast, Tribe, Jay, Biggie etc.

Then I think its fair to say he’s an average artist no?

Nothing special about him, just sticks to a formula that the mainstream audience will eat up whenever he drops. Gotta respect it though, dominated a whole decade.

I don't see the logic of either someone's an all time goat or average. He's in between.

He’s either average or trash to me, there’s not enough material in his discography that I can truly say I enjoy. There’s better rappers and singers that I’d rather listen to who I feel have masterpieces under their name. Think I’ve just grown out of his current facade of being a so called mobster that his music tends to sound tedious.

The last song of his that I really liked was Nice For What.

Ok after another couple of listens to T&Y I enjoyed it more than I remember. Not surprised considering 2015 me is a lot different than 2020 me.

    I love

    • Mural (sans the rain/reign bullshit (doesn't flow well imo))
    • Dots & Lines
    • Prisoner1&2
    • Body of Work
    • Deliver
    • Little Death

    • Adoration of the Magi and Madonna are my absolute favs

    • Chopper might be my least fav (but it's not terrible just a bit long winded but that's likely the point)

    • No Scratches my second least fav

    • TRON and Blur My Hands are pretty good too

Overall I can say I might've jumped the gun using my 2015 thoughts to argue a point for an album I hadn't heard in 5 years. I'm still defending my stance on the rain lines but there's more self aware humor on here that I gave it credit for but he's not some surreal humorist imo, just a few funny lines. AND HE'S NOT TO BE COMPARED TO DYLAN

  • Also Drake has sucked since after IYRTITL and his only decent string of ok albums was Take Care-NWTS-IYRTITL (the best being a 6/10) Fewtch carried on WATTBA and that album was some mid.

sure, the surreal humor is rather subdued and it was far more overt in Dylan's case but there are similarities in their way of storytellng so I get that a***ogy (like the mentioned word play. I don't know if it was intentional but it's just the way it comes off to me.).

Just because you can compare an artist to another doesn't mean they are as good or like them as much. That would make The Strokes as good The Velvet Underground or Coldplay as good as Radiohead or U2.
Chopper kind of works in the album context but not as a standalone.

Also, the production is pretty amazing although it takes a few listens to sink in.

who tf supported Buttigieg? He went from a progressive to a total sell-out.

...and Warren is a very sad tragedy. I sort of despise her now but I liked her before. It's just hard to believe she would become such a hypocritical piece of s***.

EDIT: sorry, this ain't for politics.

K first of all you know his popularity doesn't matter to me. I think yeah his singing is average but he can definitely black out sometimes bar-wise, he has the most consistently immaculate flows all decade imo and as arel pointed out a while ago he has a unheralded mastery of actually staying on topic for most of a verse.... (And still flowing perfectly) Something almost no other rappers bother with. Especially mainstream dudes.

Hold On Were Going Home is some of the worst trash he ever dropped, hated it then and still do.

Yeah Nice For What is an amazing song and was on his last album. Couple others on there I like just as much.
