Would love to hear your reasoning behind Blonde being innovative. To me it's just a lo-fi soul album with an 'edge' to it

im not one of its insanely devoted stans but I think it does sound unique. I don't think it's a fully soul album (some people argue against it being R&B entirely) or fully lo-fi. i think the combination of that with the pop elements, even some ambient, and some of the 2010s-2020s "bedroom pop/alt pop" (for lack of a better word) type sound is pretty interesting. it never sounds like it could have came out before the 2010s or anything, but also doesn't sound totally disconnected from the past for it to be inaccessible.

"innovative" might not be the right word here but I also think Frank has a good unique approach to songwriting which adds another layer

i think its already pretty set in stone that Blonde will be seen as one of the big classic albums of its era

my prediction for RYM top 5 in 2030

    1. TPAB
    2. Blonde
    3. Madvillainy
    4. OKC
    5. Igor

lol i’ve always used RYM on a very artist to artist basis. like I almost never browse the charts, i just like seeing what they think of an artist’s discog compared to what i think

Agree. I think the ppl are varied enough on their tastes to not have a hip hop dominated list

idk if anyone here is a die hard hip hop head

I used to be such an Igor defender because KTT is unreasonable about Tyler but man I don't it being ranked as the best soul album ever or wtf

Blonde deserves whatever high ranking it gets, it's a bold weird and innovative album for such a popular artist and its best tracks are essential

I hear 250+ albums a year and have rated 10,000+ albums and haven't heard anything that quite sounds like Blonde. It's its own little universe. Maybe that doesn't make it "innovative" but it is unique

I’m kinda not looking forward to the 21st century list getting dominated by rap and pop

    those 00's riff tho

  • gonna concoct rules for 21st century list tonight possibly tomorrow

  • and i won't ban rap but I better not see anybody frontloading their lists with a bunch of boring ass raps (mostly to Kendrick fans) (you can vote for him I just had to let it be known I disagree with your choice)

The main plots in Yakuza games are like something out of a Kurosawa crime thriller but then the side quests and mini games are straight up Takeshi’s Castle

ATTENTION!!!! NEW LIST APPROACHING!!!! 21st CENTURY!!!!!!!!!!

    (2000-present)

Now that we've got a canonized list for each decade of the album era on KTT2, it's time to get creative.

We will be doing a best albums of the 21st CENTURY because why not. (This is an excuse to let people vote for their favourite 2020s albums with their other modern favourites.)

We have been diving further and further into layers of dust and now we can finally get out and breathe the fresh, modern air.

    RULES and STUFF

    MINIMUM OF 80 ALBUMS

MAXIMUM OF 110 ALBUMS (it's just how it turned out for my voting format)

(This includes Studio Albums, EP's, Mixtapes, Compilations relevant to the century and Live Albums. Please consult me on whatever weird, dusty compilation you may have in mind.)

Why so many? Because combining 24 years of album releases into a smaller range (50-70) would be harder to get a more concise list. 110 itself almost feels a bit low but I'm stopping it there for my sanity. ALSO, anybody who already made a 2000s and 2010s list can cheat sheet their older lists to combine them + make small edits or whatever. So, yes, I will be pestering you if you've made old lists and are hesitant to participate because I'm constantly making an excuse to do lists.)

    2010s: docs.google.com/document/d/1O1xosSfqhpiziN9Pz7gJuFOV9HYtCdG_heBSqNRgRnk/edit?usp=sharing

THE KANYE RULE (if you do not plan on voting for Kanye, just ignore this)

We are all aware of Kanye's utter domination on the modern lists so I'm going to give him a nerf to give other artists a chance to shine.

PART 1: MAX OF ONLY 3 KANYE ALBUMS ALLOWED ON YOUR LIST!!!! (While this might nerf his 5-7 range of albums, I don't want everybody voting for 'The Big 4'. You have to choose 3 if you're gonna vote him.)

PART 2: WHILE YOUR HIGHEST KANYE VOTE CAN BE ANYWHERE YOU PLEASE, YOUR SECOND HIGHEST KANYE VOTE CAN BE NO HIGHER THAN #31!!!!!! (for balancing purposes) (make your picks wisely)

PART 3: YOUR THIRD (and last if you use all 3 Kanye votes) CAN BE NO HIGHER THAN #61!!!!!! (for balancing purposes)

If you are unhappy with the Kanye rule, I present this docs.google.com/document/d/16G78bai1uPQlBdcYBUDgYuaLfGvuXhZcGMEvAEDAZJI/edit#bookmark=id.4jan2j2asmdc

IF I SEE ANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE KANYE RULE BEING TOO HARSH I WILL ACCUSE YOU OF BEING A NAZI SYMPATHIZER!!!!!!

I almost banned hip-hop outright, but a great point was made to me that the current group (60s-90s) is not the same as the 2010s group we started with 3 years ago and that some of the newer voters may want to have their input on the genre be taken into account.

If you do not follow the Kanye rule with your votes, I'm not even gonna fix it for you. I will not count any votes that do not follow the Kanye guidelines

    DUE DATE END OF AUGUST
