Totally. I’ll never pretend it’s not offensive or worse, but generally I think accents can be funny divorced from an explicitly hateful context. It’s the old Simpsons or South Park attitude that stereotypes and what not can be funny when we’re self aware that they’re wrong. Irony I guess.

Japan of course has its own racist issues, but I think generally a lot of people view their expressions of different cultures in this playful way as much more innocent than the way we’ve historically done it.

It’s gotten to a point where any kind of cultural influence or reference will piss some bozo off. People need to chill the f*** out.

I do remember I think Polygon or something writing an article about that in Mario Odyssey and I think even their readers sort of just rolled their eyes and moved on.

My friend showed me this video after it came out. I bought his album on iTunes afterwards. I was a big Lonely Island/Weird Al/Adam Sandler fan as a kid and he was similar.

Also, he’s in The League. One of my fav sitcoms, created by a Curb/Seinfeld head writer and his wife. This clip gives you an idea of what it’s like.
