I kinda put comedies in a different category. That, Louie, Always Sunny, Seinfeld, etc would all be in their own thing for me.

Same but Curb means just as much to me as Sopranos/Wire/Peaks

Maybe Eastbound & Down transcends comedy though.

I would say Curb and to a slightly lesser extent Seinfeld transcend comedy and are more a lifestyle or philosophy

Been rewatching Boardwalk Empire. I’m on season 4 and it’s peak television. Along with Twin Peaks and The Sopranos there’s nothing else this good.

I liked that show and the talent of the cast is A1 but I felt it just missed something to be put up there with The Wire and Sopranos

Also the drama aspect of Louie definitely transcends just a comedy show. Same with Horace & Pete

One of the last great shows that was that honest and nuanced while also being on that level production design wise. It’s shot gorgeously and looks so authentic. Feels like looking through a doorway into another time rather than a reflective look back on one.

I think it cost so much that HBO wanted to wrap it up quick for that final season smh

Rewatch it. I promise it’s worth it. I felt the same at the time. I feel like it was harder to appreciate as it was happening.

Oh I've seen it a few times its a great show and like you said the setting and fashion is I think having that Marty backing and the Sopranos writers brought the expectations to an almost unreachable level. But I totally enjoy it,

Michael K Williams was excellent in S4 if I remember correct. Michael Shannon in S1 was a force too

Literally the only downside for me is Michael Pitt leaving after season 2. Felt like they wrote him off before his arc was finished because of some scheduling conflict or something. The stuff with his mother was fascinating. That being said—what they did in the aftermath of that was also brilliantly written.

Michael Pitt I miss that guy, seems like he was just done with acting. A renaissance man who does his own thing I guess.

When he teams up with Richard :datass:

There's loads of comedy series now that at least strive to transcend comedy. Even rubbish ones like Schitt's Creek.

And similarly there's loads of shows that are built like dramas but are essentially sitcoms. Stuff like Succession and White Lotus.

Those lines are more blurred than ever
