Have you heard about the time he stabbed his wife in front of a bunch of people at a party when he was the king of the literary world? "Get away from her. Let the b**** die"

read many goosebumps books as a child. good times. Especially that one story where they've played that card game and the world was changing all the time due to that game. A bit like Jumanji but more like Lovecraft tbh. forgot the name of that story. EDIT: It's "Be Afraid - Be Very Afraid!"

also where that protagonist's dad turned into a plant.

and that bizarre super hero story.

"In 1981, Norman Mailer threw the heft of his towering celebrity into freeing a convicted murderer and likely psychopath named Jack Henry Abbott.

Six weeks later, Richard Adan, a 22-year-old aspiring playwright, slumped to his death in a Bowery alley. Abbott, by then a darling of literary New York, had sliced the man's heart nearly in two."

    What the f*** Norman

    What the f*** Norman

Abbott described his life as being a "state-raised convict", spending much of his life since age 12 in confinement in state facilities, including solitary confinement. He wrote that because of confinement with other violent offenders from whom he could not escape, he developed a subjective perspective that every encounter was potentially threatening.
