Feb 26, 2023Listened to Procol Harum’s debut earlier and it was disappointing. It was a big mistake not to put Whiter Shade of Pale on it. Middle of the road album that’s very confused. Not melodic enough to be as successful as the Beatlesque pop it’s going for on certain tracks and not ambitious or atmospheric enough to match the best proto prog it’s going for on others. Highlights are Salad Days and Repent Walpurgis. Good Captain Clack is just straight up bad and the rest is serviceable, but none of it really grabbed me.
