get ready for that masterpiece to rank in the top 10 on the century list

I don't have much emotional stock in Radiohead placements on that list and I know they'll have a good showing lol

  • In Rainbows finished #33 in the 2000s so if it somehow finishes top 10 in the whole century... fair play I guess

lmao, this is a wild accusation for such a 7/10 record at the very best. I admit there are some great songs are there but some are really not that interesting at all.

One of the best covers of the 21st century though so the layout will look cool for it at least

if AMSP was like 6 or 7 songs I think it rivals their best. Will have to re-visit it soon

actually Bodysnatchers is pretty good but it really doesn't fit with the tone of the album so I'm just confused why it's there.

feel like I've had to explain my stance on In Ranbows a million times now. Shouldn't have to list the sngs I don't care for everytime this discussion pops up

15 step set the tone and Bodysnatchers goes in the same direction

    Drummers took over the album

Videotape is one of their bleakest closers — I love it. Everything else I can see where you’re coming from. I’ve never been as huge on In Rainbows as other people, but I also think they’re an incredibly consistent band and almost all of their music is immediate in a really compelling way that most good artists only get to a handful of times on an album.

  • I will admit that "Reckoner" is top a top 5 Radiohead song and "Weird Fishes" and "Jigsaw" may be top 20ish. "Nude" is really nice as well.

  • but 4 songs can't bring up the inconsistency of that record imo

I've converted several people with Reckoner

    It's a masterpiece

I often hear people say they can’t get into them and I find that strange. They’re far from an alienating band. Then again I know people who even think a song like Karma Police is too weird. As I said they’re pretty “immediate” to me. For as much as Thom likes to say he cares more about rhythm than melody—he’s probably one of the best melody writers up there with Paul McCartney and Brian Wilson for me.

I don't find it strange at all. If you don't like Thom Yorke's weepy moaning then why would somebody like Radiohead at all? Imo his singing is the weakest link of all their music.

Yeah they have quite a few classic ballads at this point but with that much darker undertone to them. I reckon Neil Young covering Pink Floyd would sound just like Radiohead.

Radiohead has a little something for most types of listeners at this point and that's part of what makes them so legendary. The early s*** has a very broad appeal to rock fans, electronic fans vibe more with Kid A, younger listeners pick In Rainbows for the most part, then you get different niche pockets pulled in by AMSP or Amnesiac, they're a super versatile band. Even Thom's voice has changed a lot over the years and appeals to different people in different ways.

Most of the all time great bands that transcended their era were good at multiple things. The Beatles shifted around a lot. Zeppelin could be goofy and fun sometimes. Pink Floyd had a ton of different phases. The Stones didn't just write Satisfaction over and over. Radiohead has one of those really interesting career arcs.

His singing is what made them so universal
