Mar 24, 2023·1 reply@Aruji gave Shaking the Habitual a re-listen and all the more traditional songs with vocals are all still brilliant and if it was just the best 8 or 9 songs would be a top 5 album of the century, but the 19 minute track, while still pretty good, is not something I would listen to on every play of the album. Fracking Fluid Injection is still awful and I had to move the needle to the last song.
Overall will still get a decent spot on my list.

I love Fracking Fluid Injection. Gives me huge Industrial meets Anco vibes. Def not nice to listen to but I like how unnerving it is.
If I'd rank the songs on the album I'd probably say (aside from the one-minute interludes)

For the most part it either went in that direction or the Joy Division/Cure/Smiths direction. The Clash seem like the ultimate kitsch-y punk band.
For me personally when I think "punk" my mind goes to 80s hardcore

you have to feel it. Don't know his upfront campy appeal. As if he's completely unashamed of his kitschy songs and means it entirely serious.
Also, his music is based on musicals which are in general the North American pendant to European opera mixed with more popular genres. He then proceeds to write long but very catchy and dramatic tracks. Kind of a similar appeal.

FellaNo offense to my gay homies, but they sort of embraced it so hard that it became absorbed by the mainstream where all of its John Waters-esq edges were sanded off and it ultimately turned it into this ironically detached cutesy junk targeted exclusively to them. S*** like M3GAN is what you get now.

tbh i know very little of Steinmans music. idk where you guys found Pandoras Box but it doesnt seem to exist for me.
