Nobody taking into account that Joni, Leonard, Lightfoot etc can't actually rock and roll. The fact that Neil can rival the best chill songwriters as well as the most thunderous rock bands puts him on a level that very few people are on, Canadian or otherwise.

Corgan is up there. J Mascis too.

I know what you mean and you're not wrong, but I'm talking about like the fact that Neil has been a pillar of the folk music world for half a century. Those guys are more just rock and rollers who were able to write nice ballads.

"Secret history" as if they're uncovering hidden truths that haven't been widely-discussed and, in many popular cases, out in the open. The staff writers at P4K really take forcing s*** to a whole new level lol.

They even reference a 2010 journal written by a UK professor to preempt the claim that indie rock is rooted in the punk (DIY) era of the late 70s/early 80s......despite that point already being recognized in Our Band Could Be Your Life — an entire book about it published 20 years ago and one of the most acclaimed and commercially successful rock music books of the century.

If there were any actual truth to the claim that indie rock is understood to be "the province of white heterosexual males", then that notion would certainly be a very recent adoption. At best, this P4K drone's claim about what indie rock "is" sociologically are "saying s*** to say s***".

Even the idea of talking about "indie rock" — as if its some kind of specific movement or group tied together by a style or social philosophy — is nonsense. You could replace every instance of "Indie Rock" with just "Rock" or "Electronic" or any other extremely broad category and the "point" of the article would be basically the same.
