!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvlGmA1J478!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhF-YfLAhw0I’ve said this before and was mocked for it, but I weirdly prefer the Twenty One Pilots version of cancer. I think they’re a bad band generally, but I think that material works better with something closer to the dreampop sound they gave it. Would rather someone like Cigarettes After S***do it instead of them.

you are in fact the only person who thinks that, maybe it's my nostalgia but the 21P version is cancer to me. but fair enough.
it's not just the dreampop though it's also the cringy electronic s***
I actually like a few 21p songs lol
famous last words was the song that got me into MCR back in the day. funnily enough now it's the one song on TBP that I don't like

A girl I was dating showed me that cover and for the longest time I never realized it was them. When I found out there was people who hated that version—it just came across to me like projection of preconceived notions about the artist onto the material. I find the try hard vocal inflections in the original version way cringier than the electronic sounds in the cover. Again I still think if an actual dream pop group did it then it’d be better.

i'm not knocking you for enjoying it. to each his own. what I like about the original is that it's the only stripped down "acoustic" song on the album (at least in the first half)... Which I think fits it better given that the themes of the song are better served with simplicity. Some songs carry enough emotional weight that they don't need the extra melodrama (and if you think Gerard's voice is melodramatic or cringy that's probably just not growing up with their music so I can see that but for me it's just how the band is)
also I remember crying to that video as a 12 year old and I never cried as a child
Reminds me of this list I made 2 weeks ago and am slowly trying to fill. (I will not be doing a rap list for KTT2 because the outcome would be boring af)

It’s honestly something I can’t enjoy anymore since everyone makes me feel like a weirdo for it. Obviously you’re not doing that, but anytime I hear it all I can think about is the conversation around it. But yeah it’s definitely a difference of perspective and context. I just don’t think anyone would passionately hate that version if it existed in isolation. I wasn’t introduced to MCR until much later in life and I never really resonated with them when I tried, but I always acknowledged Gerard as having an incredible ear for melody. When it comes to the song—I actually always more so imagined something closer in style to The Antlers and not just because they have a whole album about cancer.

also that short piano refrain throughout the beat is so sick.
@HeyFella
First time listening to this new one. It's pretty cool.
