Still a clossic convo and you could tell how much love they put into the art.

I watch this every year. I love when Gervais says “When I was writing my first joke…” then Chris Rock interrupts with “You mean last week?”

Oh I just listened to it tonight. Really bummed me out. A buddy of mine recommended it because they noticed I was listening to a lot of Synthpop this month and for some reason suggested this as if fell into that. They sold it to me that way and instead I got a suicide note. A lot of sad music is usually beautiful, melodic, and introspective in a way that’s life affirming, but this sounded like a man on the brink. Slowly walking drunk to the bridge to jump off. It’s all gorgeously arranged and the songs are good, but I just felt so empty listening to it. It does have a really interesting sound though—like as if Leonard Cohen was trying to be Peter Gabriel but produced by Talk Talk. Headlights on The Parade is probably the only song I’ll actually go back to. Again that isn’t to say the other songs are bad. They’re great at what they’re doing, but what they’re doing really makes me miserable.

also apparently Dylan told Bono he was making a huge mistake by never diving into irish folk music which then inspired him to, influencing some of their late 80s direction

Crazy he had to be told. I guess America and England were too intoxicating for him.

He wanted to be punk I’m guessing. Unforgettable Fire sounds like someone who doesn’t want anything to do with traditional folk.

My pops was obsessed with Riverdance and s*** back in the 90s when it blew up, and I generally found it pretty annoying except a couple key tracks which were epic enough to whip out for the boys later when we were teenagers lol. Picture a bunch of zonked out f***heads on a bunch of d**** (not the hard ones) and cranking this with black light and strobe on

(CD version doesn't have the tapping lol)

Eno probably wasn't having anything traditional sounding allowed.

You hear about him during the sessions for Tom Tom Club a bit of a d***

It's a dedication I admire but can't do myself. I usually only listen to like 10-15 a year (20 on a good year) and only love about 4-5.

  • For example, this Danny Brown is nice but after I listen a few more times I'm more likely to just re listen to XXX or Old Side A in the future

I like to keep up with the artists I know, but there are just an endless amount of people I've never heard of these days and I don't know where they're coming from or what their musical heritage is or anything and it's too much. Takes a real specific recommendation with some backstory to get me to check out something new.

I did hear about Devo rejecting every single one of his suggestions
