I've cooled off on the new ye for now. Like almost every ye record, I'll usually always love it at first and get my full bearings later. Think I loved Donda even more the first week and the highest highs are still amazing. I can acknowledge the highs on Vultures aren't on that level but I don't know how these songs will feel for me in a couple months

Top 5 for now are probably

    "Fuk Sumn"
    "Stars"
    "Good (Don't Die)"
    "Beg Forgiveness"
    "Vultures"

Also still enjoy "Keys to my Life", "Paid", "Hoodrat", "Burn", "Carnival", "Back to Me", and "Problematic" to varying degrees.

The production and song structures are clearly the high points of these songs but I'm wondering how much I'll stick around for the extremely superficial lyrics throughout

I still think it’s his best paced and most distinct sounding since Yeezus. I’ve never really cared about the superficiality of his lyrics since he’s always been more of a hedonistic flippant hype man for everything going on around him.

Revisited Love’s Forever Changes and it’s of course a fantastic record, but I’ve never quite understood it being so many people’s favorite from that era and even all time. I think the second half is a bit weaker (although Live and Let Live goes hard) and the variety doesn’t make it feel nearly as focused as the other best stuff from the late 60’s in that genre.

fair point. I gotta come back to it after not listening for a while. Don't think I've overplayed it but I don't wanna get to that point.

Yeah I overplayed Donda and was burnt out on it pretty quickly. I think this deserves more time away from.

I mean this is one of the best songs ever, but I feel like there’s other late 60’s album in this genre that evoke the feeling of a song like this more consistently across their full record.

I would say every song from Forever Changes packs more ideas and obscure feelings into each song than most albums from any era manage to

i think part of it is just a lot of subtleties that end up being godly, like the interplay of the acoustic guitars and the little inflections in his vocal delivery at certain points. use of the horns alongside strings but in such a tasteful way with restraint

feels very 1967 and Los Angeles in the most charming ways but i still havent felt any other music express what it expresses
