I would say every song from Forever Changes packs more ideas and obscure feelings into each song than most albums from any era manage to

I’m just not seeing anything particularly special about it in that way. It’s all very impressive and I love plenty of the tracks on it, but it isn’t topping the best work from around then. It’s still probably top 20 or 30 of the decade for me.

i think part of it is just a lot of subtleties that end up being godly, like the interplay of the acoustic guitars and the little inflections in his vocal delivery at certain points. use of the horns alongside strings but in such a tasteful way with restraint

feels very 1967 and Los Angeles in the most charming ways but i still havent felt any other music express what it expresses

Yeah I know what you mean. There’s this part on Maybe The People Would Be… that pulls this exact thing off perfectly and it’s heavenly, but also very subtle as you say.

yeah Still Goin Down is a heater. infectious af, yeah the chorus lyrics are ridiculous but that part is so good. he has a lot of parts where the catchy rhythm plus vocal inflection just helps to make the melody ridiculously catchy. the pseudo rapping on the title track

in that vein I also really love Beer Don't. its just such an outrageous banger. some of those 2nd half songs that seemed slight at first snuck up on me like Me on Whiskey, Silverado for Sale, Rednecks Red Letters Red Dirt. also think Quittin Time is an amazing closer

i dont dislike it but i think Country A$$ S*** is the weakest and its just a bit much lol

album ties American Heartbreak for my most played of the past 5 years

Yeah same here with Country Ass S*** lmao. It's too far for me, im good
Red Letter Red Dirt is good too. Maybe the others will grow on me more too.

I doubt i can play it as much as i have american heartbreak at this point lmao but i can try

Yeap. Watched it again last night for the hell of it. Very good but I think the first special was more nuanced with its infinitesimal, unpredictable tonal shifts.

any cool concerts upcoming for anyone? I’m seeing Jeff Rosenstock in March and considering getting tickets to Ride and camera obscura in may

This is my concert calendar so far this year:

    2/9 Jane Remover & quannnic
    4/19 Glass Beach
    4/21 - Al Stewart
    5/1 - PinkPantheress
    5/2 - Julia Holter
5/18 - Just Like Heaven Fest

There are a bunch of other shows I am interested in but don't have tickets for yet (Madonna, Olivia Rodrigo w/ The Breeders, Ethel Cain, Mitski). I'll probably wait until the last minute to decide on those.

Definitely a consensus opinion. Seeing him do the second special material live definitely changes the perception of it though. His timing and facial expressions made the atmosphere more surreal.

Cause wow this hits all my sensibilities. @Elric

This whole album is wonderful. It’s like if Soft Bulletin era Wayne Michael Coyne made a warm psychedelic 70’s soft rock record.
