Been craving a decades film list series done by Galaxy but it would be wayyyyyy more labor intensive than albums -- there's just so many more films to vote for than albums I think. Maybe directors of the decades poll would be more realistic

But i would love to do a films one

there are way more albums to vote for than films though..

would anyone be down for a film poll?

Always down for anybody that wants to encourage more community engagement so it's not always just Galaxy and to lesser extent myself

I mean "more" in the sense of the range of what each voter has seen/considers top tier. When we do albums, there's always lots of things unique to each person's list, but there's generally a good bit of crossover amongst most submissions.

But with films i feel like the amount of crossover votes has the potential to be much smaller. I know it's not the case for everyone that would vote on films, but i know me and a handful others would have a long list of films to parse through and probably end up with wildly different titles to vote for (meaning lots of films that dont make the list or just clog up the back half of the results with one or two high votes)

Maybe im just assuming its that way more than it actually is. Idk. But for example, just looking at my Letterboxd films and filtering to show the 1970s, sorted by my rating highest to lowest, there are 120 films before i even see my first 4 star rating. That's way more than the number of 70s albums i've rated that highly.

You've had your offical "best of all time" films list organized for a hot minute so it probably wouldnt take long to make your lists haha

well apparently i've got 182 albums in the 70s before i even see my first 4 star rating so the part about wildly different lists is true but i think its also extremely true for the albums. number of albums in existence just totally dwarfs the number of films

how many films do you think youve seen overall btw?

Yeah like i said im probably over estimating but the amount of single votes for films feels like it would be higher than most of our albums lists

    Overall (according to LB): 3,906

If Galaxy doesn't want to do it I would give it a try even though I don't have the skill he has. Especially If it's for film so that it wouldn't collide with music related polls.

Yeah its my top clint, with Honkytonk Man and White Hunter, Black Heart close behind. Its so damn good. Hope you're comfortable crying in front of your parents cause its inevitable

And one of my first big blu-ray purchases years back was the By Brakhage set from criterion cause it looked interesting. Fell i love instantly. "Black Ice" probably one of my faves cause that zoom effect is insane. He was on another level.

That Kiarostami story is wild tho. I bet you're kicking yourself now

Nah I don't cry but my mom sobs at everything to the point of it being comical. But I've been meaning to watch it for years now. Looks like a very genuine film.

And that's awesome. I didn't know he had a criterion. He had a huge impact on me actually. I used his "painting on film strips effect" in some films in college. I use the effect briefly at the beginning of my college film reel and at the beginning of an experimental film I made back when I was a freshman. I don't think that highly of these...but I'll link them anyway... (surprised I still even have these/they haven't been deleted) I used similar effects/techniques in other videos, but they're long gone.

And yeah. Kind of wild looking back at it. He had sunglasses on inside and looked like a badass and I didn't even know I was sitting next to a Palme d'Or winner/top 3 filmmaker oat I would be starstruck if I saw him today.

Did it remind you of an Old Hollywood romantic comedy at some points?
