I don't really have a concrete #1 favorite director so figured he was a good, strategic choice. Dreyer was such an enigma, coming out of hibernation like once a decade to do such pure, unadorned, transcendent cinema when the inspiration actually struck him. Didn't seem like he was doing it for money or to keep busy. Didn't seem like he cared what anybody else was doing. Man moved at his own deliberate, glacial pace and it resulted the most powerful, unsettling, spiritual stuff I've ever seen.

As far as Miyazaki, the Mononoke/Nausicaa/Laputa trinity are all absolute god level but deep down my heart is with my boy Porco :datass:

I peeped that flick In A Lonely Place last night, very solid dust. Funny enough I randomly looked at the book a few months ago and I think they focus more on Bogie’s character coming home from the war than being a screenwriter.
