rly dark day for the land of Germs, they're the leading party now in several counties of former east germany and will likely win some other elections too. it's not quite half the country but it could end up as much as a third of it, which is terrifying.

they're taking ages to establish in court that the AfD is as a whole extremist and unconstitutional (it quite clearly is) and now that they are big enough to actually govern parts of the country it's basically too late to even go the route of outright banning them, because it would just be seen as undemocratic and giving them more fuel. the governing CDU will only play into their cards.

we need a major shift but it's unclear at this point where it's even supposed to come from... the left party becoming bigger even though they're not even left enough to take a clear stand with Palestine is the only glimmer of hope here. all the other parties, even the formerly progressive green party, are basically conservative at this point and way too status quo to bring about positive change. I really don't think the post-war political landscape has ever looked more grim
