I feel ya I’m a teacher when I first started I just wore chinos and button up shirts from
Uniqlo and gap during the week and wear my supreme and streetwear stuff like on the weekend. But now that I’ve gotten older and grown out of that hype streetwear look. I’m more into wearing more workwear and more mature stuff. So now I’m able to find that perfect balance of what I like and what’s appropriate to my job so I don’t have that big contrasting styles anymore. I guess that’s what you’re talking about and you gotta look for. But yeah don’t dress like lil uzi if you sell insurance. It’s fun to have some cool clothes though for when you going out.

Uzi fits been lackin since he broke up with Brittany tbh

Before I respond to y'all replies, I do want to preference that of course I believe that their exceptions to even my own logic in this thread.

Remember when it was a thing to call out people that wore Supreme, but didn't skate? Like I don't follow sports at all, but still wear the occasional jordans and haven't been against wearing fiteds, snapbacks and throwbacks in my time.

I want to be sure that where I'm coming from is way more nuanced and that I'm not being unreasonably strict with this idea. Again, I agree that personal style is important and that it should be about wearing what you want to wear.

I'm simply saying that it needs to e done to a fault at some point.

I get where you coming from bro, but that s*** stems from insecurities. Not saying particularly with you but the whole “oh you rocking supreme but can’t skate”......all that s*** doesn’t matter, same with rocking Jordan’s, you don’t need to play sports in order to do so.

damn you prolly the cool teacher at your school

I use to teach at a middle school last year and would wear my Travis Scott lows a lot the some of the students thought I was cool. Now I’m at a elementary school it doesn’t even matter how I dress. but to the teachers I’m like the cool young millennial, since I’m the only young male teacher.

also don’t think you have to limit your wardrobe based on your occupation. You gotta remember most ppl aren’t even lucky enough to be doing what they truly want to do for their job and most likely just doing whatever pays the most.

like def don’t show up to sell a house dressed like uzi/respect your occupations dress code and be professional about it.. but also don’t let your job stop you from having some fun on the weekend esp if that job isn’t even something you truly care about.

this too. that kinda s*** did bother me when I was younger but these days I’m too old to be worrying about if someone is gonna think I’m a poser lol. I try not be one but def not worrying too much about it when I do get on my poser flow.

Most definitely bro and even then I feel there’s a difference between not wanting to feel like a poser VS tryna make people feel like s*** for being a “poser”

Honestly a lot of this stuff just comes down to getting a feel for what you're into, what fits your body type etc it's something you tease out over time which is annoying as I don't think there's a quick fix but yeah

Definitely agree with the above though that there was def a time when I was copping very loud individual pieces that just sort of ended up jarring with everything else I owned

Same goes for having distinct lines between casual and work stuff, think I've a lot more stuff nowadays that I could justifiably do for either and imo it makes for a stronger wardrobe

fashion is definitely getting more androgynous and eccentric lately! seeing so many normal non-celeb dudes being comfortable with wearing traditionally feminine clothes gives me some hope

men need to reclaim high heeled boots! this is one of those things that are almost bizzare in how the social norms did a complete 180 from heels first being invented as a staple in men's fashion to becoming almost taboo for some time

On the real though whenever I make a big purchase I always think about "can I wear this to work". It's never a dealbreaker but it is a big factor.

One of my personal main critiques about fashion, and why I choose not to follow trends (outside of me just feeling like I'm getting too old for certain things), is that I feel as if certain styles and manners of dressing are meant for people who live a particular "lifestyle"

Yes, ultimately I agree with the notion that you should wear whatever you like and feel comfortable in, but at the same time, it should also make sense in terms of matching your lifestyle, or at least your occupation.

I don't know, I just feel like their something goofy about dressing like ASAP Bari or a Raf runway model when you work a cubicle desk job, no?

Which is why I stick to just wearing basic essential-wear/work-wear whatever you wanna call it.

    Thoughts?

Maybe use this thread to discuss and post brands that match this way of thinking?
