americans think not buying amazon s*** for a day is peak activism
The amount of people I’ve seen respond to it with “Well, I wasn’t really planning on buying anything then anyway.”.
Yes, clearly that means it’s an effective movement if it costs you absolutely 0 convenience or effort on your part whatsoever.
Forgive me but I thought sending the message to billionares was the message today. It was said to shop small businesses in cash instead of supporting those major companies/corporations.
But it doesn’t send a message if you aren’t prepared to do so for weeks or even months.
Advertising it as one day where the vast majority of the populace probably isn’t even aware of it to begin with (not to mention the amount of people who’ll claim to be a part of it, but only for online brownie points when in reality they absolutely buy something off of Amazon or go grocery shopping at Walmart) lets these companies know “Eh, it’s just one day.” even if the lines goes down slightly.
It’s just one day.
Jus crashed my cybertruck then bought a maserati
Can you explain how this is “trying” and how this “could” result in organization
I’ve explained it in the reply to the guy I was talking to.
Americans boycotting their favorite passtime, shopping, for a one day form of activism is just... idk man

“Sending a message”
Nobody really learned a thing from Luigi
RT @Snowboy
But what’s the harm in doing it for today? Maybe it could result in the start of something more organized. I just fail to see why we’re putting down people for trying something here.
long post, and this aint solely directed at you
But this action has already happened in the past and these same types of people swear this is all they gotta do. Meanwhile they stay isolated and stay to themselves and nothing happens.
how do yall claim to want a revolution but yall cant even make friends? - ghais guevara via ig
At the very least, if your bleeding heart cares enough about these issues. Participate in (from an individual standpoint) educating yourself on these issues. Go to paid panels or discussions online about these issues (that way you are actually putting $$$ into the hands of ppl that deserve it), or in real life go to discussions about it where you meet like minded individuals that you might make a (platonic) spark as a fellow comrade. Maybe even learn or join up on some initiatives that said comrade(s) is doing.
Up here in nyc it’s starting to warm up, and my sundays bout to be open after this church gig so ima go to my fav local community gardens and help volunteer. Community building is such an important part of any of this s***.
America killing third spaces was intentional the more we isolate the less we organize/migrate for likely causes. This the time to honestly be outside and just see what you can do, see what your homies is involved in.
its performative and detracts from actions people can meaningfully take to hurt the capitalist class, like joining/starting a militant labour union or tenants union. im not saying that boycotts are entirely useless, but they need to be well organized and precise in their demands. BDS has specific pressure targets rather than trying to boycott every single company with ties to Israel, which is practically impossible atm
for this one, telling people to "abstain from making any purchases, whether in store or online, but particularly not from big retailers or chains" is way too broad and doesn't specify what it wants to achieve. it seems like Target and Amazon are pressure targets, but still, whats the end goal besides "sending a message to Billionaires"?

I completely agree with you on that. I don’t think this should be an end all be all. What I guess I don’t like is people s***ting on things like this without context or encouragement for bigger ways to protest/send messages. We need more of what you just said versus “lol ain’t s*** gonna happen from this ima go order doordash libtards” as a response. Feel me?
Before this day, I didn’t see anyone encouraging others to push for a bigger protest or give examples of how we can create massive change. And yes you an research ways on your own but I’d like us to start thinking like a community and help each other and s***.
S*** Is dumb when half of the country has to pay 2000 dolllars in rent tomorrow , the problem is not the f***ing 4 dollar Amazon purchase
That's how it is until you come up dollars short
