it really depends on ur budget and what ur recording, but for basic vocals u probably want a dynamic or condenser mic, with a cardiod pickup pattern. generally anything you can find on sweetwater will be a good mic, explore, see what fits ur price range best

Kanye does a lot of counterintuitive, occasionally destructive s*** in his life but when it comes to music he's earned the benefit of the doubt. Don't mind the mic quality, honestly.

One or the other approach is not inherently better. But the ye approach is more in tune with how I think things should be done. More authentic, less image driven which is only a thing because of labels wanting to ensure a “marketable product”. Back in the days when Miles Davis was putting out four projects a year they were being crafty with recording and doing concept art last minute. Even better now that we live in a lightning speed age, I love that artists can embrace doing their album cover on the way to the listening party. It’s just different approaches and different production experiences that make really different outcomes. It’s all great. Gotta appreciate the s*** Kanye’s doing now cuz it’s really cool in a different way. Although it’s good to have your preferred eras, mines MBDTF

If I listen to videos I recorded on my phone with headphones it literally sounds like I'm there, very accurate for 'surround sound', idk about actual audio quality tho (S21).
