    I'm not saying that Em was responsible for it, if anything he was just a byproduct of the era.

    No doubt he's extremely talented and a legend but last time I revisited his classics that s*** irked me a bit.

    yeah i think it was just part of the slang then, there werent as many gays back then i think so it was just a word

    pretty sure i heard the word f4g in school before i even knew what s***was

    but in ems case, those bars were only there to piss critics off

    now i dont like those bars either tho (mmlp)

    There were just as many gays back then man, they just stayed closeted bc of the embarrassment that was attached to it (which was completely unjustified ofc) at the time.

    I've heard that he uses not to bash gays but to basically emasculate his opponent (this in essence is still homophobic but that train of thought wasn't mainstream back then I assume)
    Let's note that he was white and couldn't use "nigga" like other black rappers to insult or just place it here and there for rhyme/rhythm purposes... So that might have played a part too in the f word being his go to insult for men.

    well comparatively speaking he aint really wrong. nas isn't mentioned nearly as much as jay and he has indeed fallen out of the top 10. Jay is still top 3.
