Post-Heavensward spoilers
The scene where Alphinaud decides to treat his comrades not as powerful, ready-to-die warriors, but as people with lives that should be protected at all costs really got me thinking more about his character and how much he's grown between ARR and now.
I just finished the final steps of faith and watching Alphinaud and WoL pry Nidhogg's eyes from Estenien's body while the memory of Ysayle and Haurchefaunt appeared next to them almost broke me
I forgot how smug Alphinaud was in A Realm Reborn; dude got humbled real quick after the Crystal Braves betrayed him. The exact situation you're describing with Alphinaud is something that the game regularly explores throughout the course of the narrative and he continues to be this really endearing character.
The game is packed with powerful moments like the Final Steps. I can't wait for you to see what else it has in store.
You should run through the Binding Coil of Bahamut raid at some point if you haven't already. It explores the relationship between the twins and their grandfather and it does a lot to flesh out those characters (it was also written by the lead writer for Shadowbringers). I think most of it can be soloed unsynced at 70 or 80 but there are some encounters that require two or more people because of mechanics (though you can usually find another person pretty quickly through the Party Finder).

I low-key don't like Alphinaud.
Is this worth getting this late into the game
Now's a better time than any imo.
When does this game get good, i’ve been doing nothing but fetch quests for the past 15 hours and the story is so uneventful and i’m spamming the same spell over and over f*** is going on in this game

Game gets really good around the time you go to Coerthas, then it's mostly uphill from there imo

Isn’t that like level 60 lol

It's around lvl 35, ARR doesn't have much focus but those quests are a high point imo

You have quite a way to go but if you tune in while the Scions are talking and skip everything else, it can make for a pretty fun podcast game imo. Until you get to Heavensward which is excellent

Who were the scions again
Who were the scions again
Actually idk if you've even met them yet. Y'shtola, Thancred and them. It's the main cast basically

this is good advice
i'm currently at the 7th astral arc and a lot of this stuff is kinda unengaging imo.
might just speed through it to heavensward and then watch a recap on youtube or something

The thing is, ARR sets up a lot of the political landscape of Eorzea and that stuffs super important going forward. But so many of the quests are just insignificant. You can skip most of it and get by tbh
Okay, I ran into an awful bug.
Playing on the PS5 version, I'm finding myself unable to log into the game. I left off in Gyr Abania and whenever I try to get into the game, I get stuck at the loading screen. This never happened beforehand so I'm very confused.

TDLR: Using PS4 client fixes it
Also I recommend you play in the PS4 client instead of the PS5 one. Not only are there bugs but the PS4 client actually performs a lot better than the PS5 client, PS4 like a smooth 60fps on 1440p mode whilst on PS5 there are drops pretty regularly

Thanks. Yeah, I think I'll be playing the PS4 version from now on
I like Stormblood a lot so far
Leading a group of freedom fighters against a genocidal, imperialist force is reminiscent of Final Fantasy VI, and I really think that the time we've spent in Gyr Abania so far has provided a pretty nuanced picture of colonialism and the way it can impact ordinary people. (The questline in Ala Ganha really made me empathize with the Ala Mhigans in a way ARR, and the Monk job quests certainly didn't)
Heavensward's characters became some of my favorites out of any FF, so Stormblood has a lot to live up to in that department. But so far Lyse has really grown on me. We'll see where that goes
Also, the Garlemald national anthem is stupid hard tbh
