Interstellar probably one of the most overrated pretentious movies ever
Best film ever
Star Wars/lord of the rings
I’m just not into the whole fantasy s*** so I never got the hype
well that’s part of it. jordan belfort f***ed people over selling them dog s*** stocks and making commission off it. the movie should do more to show the viewer that belfort is a scumbag. but you walk away from the movie like “hell yea jordan’s the man i can’t wait to trade stocks on wall street!”
Same thing with Fight Club and American Psycho, the protagonist is supposed to be this abhorrent figure and stand in for capitalist culture but they end up just being idolized by white male business students
Love all three movies though
Baby Driver
Nightcrawler
Good Times
My holy trinity of atrocious corn everyone seems to love
I think Donnie Darko is truly bad
Didn't click for me either. I'm not the one to call things pretentious but Donnie Darko was pretentious as f*** from what I recall
I wasn't able to finish Hereditary because towards the 3rd act it damn near became a comedy. It's also crazy to hear people say it's better than Midsommar.
The entire Star Wars franchise is overrated as well. Even the original trilogy. Only thing that keeps it loved is nostalgia. The films do a horrible job at world building being that they focus on the same range of characters and eras. The spin offs are by far the best things about them.
There are a few Godfather Part 2 drops in this thread. That being said, Part 1 is the superior film in my opinion. Michael's arc is better played out in part 1.
Uncut Gems. Seems like a movie I’d think was super cool when I was 13
Can't imagine that movie without Julia Fox or the ending
Godfather 1 & 2 (good but too hyped up)
Pulp Fiction (good, borderline great but not as amazing as they say)
American Beauty (yikes)
The Breakfast Club (trash)
Gravity (terrible movie)
Arrival (also terrible)
Akira (disappointing af)
Bruh the manga is better for Akira, Movie was fast af and it was finished way before the manga ended, But still pretty nice visuals for the movie
Natural Born Killers
I can see why Tarantino didn't want his name attached to this. Would've been so much better if he directed it or if they wouldn't have add 3 other writers to the screenplay
I like it since it’s kind of experimental, You need to have in mind while watching it that it ain’t that much of a serious movie, It’s kind of a dark comedy-drama type s***
