Honestly I think if slavery is a big plot point in your game it’s best to leave black people out of it. Cause seeing a black branded getting ordered around by a white slavemaster is horrible optically, and so is the opposite tbh.

And yeah Yoshi-P’s comments were idiotic it’s wild that after all this time, he’s like the only Japanese dev who’s had to deal with that type of question.

Essentially it’s not historically accurate to have black people.

Even though it’s fantasy.

Same thing white LOTR fans were whining about when the Amazon series had black characters.

That the setting was an isolationist continent based on medieval Europe, so having non whites would “violate narrative boundaries” or whatever. This is silly since nonwhites have lived in Europe alongside white people for a very long time.

But it’s especially egregious since the world design and culture of some FFXVI locations draws major influence from Africa, especially North Africa and the Middle East. Wearing so much of that influence without representing the people is a bad look
