Open world isn’t inherently bad but it’s handled poorly more often than not
My comment was more about people wanting every game to be an open world game rather than the quality of them but I do also agree with what you said

I think a big part of the reason the linearity of this game is being criticized by some is because people have kind of forgotten what linear games are like.
You play FFIX for instance, and outside of zones and towns, it’s straight lines, with a couple of short diverging paths to a chest.
Nowadays it’s either open worlds or “wide” linear level design.
By token it just feels kind of archaic because it’s so uncommon.
So is this game ALL combat like DMC5, or is there a good deal of exploration/side quests as well? Whats the ratio of combat to noncombat gameplay like? 50/50?
Game is absolutely phenomenal man. Gotta admit that I feel like I'm getting the spectacle that the old god of wars especially 3 used to give with this. Even Ragnarok didnt deliver this much spectacle so far and i havent even finished the game. The techno themed music during a certain boss was just flames. I get the complaints but honestly at this point I'm just enjoying the story, the combat, and the beautiful environments even if it isn't super interactive. I love the combat in this so much and it can get so chaotic at times it's hard to understand what's going on lol and I love it. Wish there was more environment traversal variety in the level design though, like a bit of platforming, climbing, boats or swimming, even though he got tjst heavy ass armor snd a dog lol.
In hindsight, the beginning of the game does remind me a bit of RDR2.
Very much a slow burn.
Clive and his Eikon erectile dysfunction at the worst times is killing me lmfao
If you want to see the combo potential end game, watch this one combo lol warning for spoilers on abilities

Still feel people should give this a watch too. I just wanted to share again because he shows some useful ways to utilize Clive’s basic abilities

yup i knew odin would be the goat
Literally just finished this, that boss fight is so well designed, probably the hardest fight in the game so far too.

def my favorite, had to actually stay on my toes
The bahumet battle really outdid the Titan lost fight. The major boss fights are speechless cinematic masterpieces.
My hot take is the titan lost fight looked cool but was too long
There are only two things I know for certain: Dutch has a plan and Cid knows a shortcut
Done every side quest so far. About halfway through the game I think. This game is DARK DARK. GOTY easily so far
why you doing every side quest like are you enjoying them or doing them to do them?
Words can’t describe how bad I think this take is. Open world games are a disease
https://twitter.com/genepark/status/1672776238270910464I don't know what he means by this because that could all be explorable but if all it is combating monsters that barely give xp or rewards then what is the point?

Honestly not sure, open world brainrot
We all agree that Windup is an essential Eikon ability right?
You see the vision.
I just wish as odd as it is that you could equip more than 3 eikon
Maybe it happens later
Like wish I could equip all my favorite abilities

I thought about that too cause theres quite a lot of abilities I wanna use, but I think keeping the max at 3 makes sense cause cycling through all those Eikons and managing all those cooldowns sounds like a headache

I would have loved to see that for New Game Plus or Final Fantasy Mode. I read what Final Fantasy Mode is and I wish I got this game on disc so I could lend to a friend because this would be a tough one to want to replay front to back
This game in no way needs to be open world it just needs its world to have
1. More to do in it
2. Random encounters or side quest that are unlabeled but found that are worthwhile
3. Better weapons and pick ups that come from exploring
4. Minigames as a path to get some renown again it doesn't have to be goofy as f*** can be as simple as chopping wood. If you have the player multiple times looking for soil or stardust in the desert you can't argue that minigames would ruin the tone.

Still rocking Phoenix, Garuda, and Titan since they just seem to be the best all-rounders. Wish Bahamut was better, but I'm sure there's a super high skill ceiling for it and Ramuh. Also sure that some Japanese dude has a combo MAD video doing some crazy bullshit with those two in particular
