Ya idk how anything is ever going to top the sheer scale of these boss fights.

There is plenty for them to improve upon, but the foundation set here is insane.

    I goat beat it

    exact same game in playstyle?

I would want quality of life things done to it. But for the most part, yes

Depends what you want from them : good story , unlocks or things you need for new game plus

Gotta finish this in like 12-15 hours tops so I'm just gonna focus on main story, some of the stronger hunts, and side quests that unlock important stuff

I'm at 71% just got bodied in a cutscene against barnabas. Hope 15 hours is enough for all of that. If it's thursday night and I'm close but still not done it might be time to start skipping story cut scenes

Alright thoughts after seeing the final credits

My gut tells me this is the best Final Fantasy ever made. The highs are so incredibly high that it makes me feel like I’m nitpicking to even bring up the lows, which there are some lows.

Pros: This is, at its core, what Final Fantasy is all about. FF games are typically story driven, character developing, RPG games that have worlds that get more and more fantastical as the game goes on. This game has all of that in spades, as well as a ton of classic FF lore (items, enemies, eikons/summons). The combat is addicting and very versatile, even after finishing the game there is a ton I want to try and learn. The story, to me, was incredibly well written and even though it may have been safe, it was about as good as you can ask for top to bottom. I loved how dark it was, and that they weren’t scared to make some of the decisions they made. Many FF in the past have failed to finish strong, and this one did not fail to do so, at all IMO. The stereotype backlash is extremely overblown. The boss battles are the best battles in any game I’ve ever played, and kept just getting better and better. I’ll never forget the roller coaster of emotions and I’ll probably be underwhelmed by bosses in games moving forward because of how good this games were. The hunts and late game side quests were also amazing. Dion is a legend and Jill is wife. I’m getting the plat and definitely doing FF mode. I also understand why they made the game slightly easier before NG+. This is story based game where the pacing matters, and if you are sitting there dying to a boss 10-100 times to figure out it’s move set, it is going ti break immersion, and FF has never been that kind of game. I also think the theme of the story in this game was a symbolism for how FF as a whole needed to go in a new route to create a new destiny, or get with the times.

Cons: Some of the early game side quests were unnecessary and felt like fuller. While they did a decent job of painting a picture of what’s going on in the world, they didn’t add from a gameplay perspective and just felt like chores. They did get better as the game went on, though. There is a lack of exploration in the open world that I feel could have easily been fixed with a few dungeons in each big area. One of my favorite parts about older FF games is exploring the dungeons and caves throughout the game and getting gear, items, etc. now that is replaced with mats to upgrade, which felt lackluster given my next point. Elemental resistances, status effects (posion, sleep, haste, slow) and just general RPG elements that FF is known for and has historically done an incredible job with, are completely missing from this game. Fire doesn’t do more damage to ice enemies, there are no speed buff items, dual wield accessories, or any elemental/stat buff accesssories other than the basic damage, defense, and health boosts. This is a fairly big deal for me, and pretty much the only reason I docked the score of the game. I was slightly surprised by this, although I understand it may have been hard to implement on top of creating this entirely new battle system and making that functional.

Overall, this is an incredible game, and where the it lacks in some places, it more than makes up for it in others. I feel like this might be the greatest FF ever made, if not top 2. It is a must play for anyone who likes single player story driven games and wants to experience boss fights like never before.

    Score: 9.5/10

Share your Eikon abilities. Found this to be what I enjoy the most. Skipped Titan and Odin abilities completely. I think they are powerful but they require a different more DMC-like playstyle that I don't really enjoy tbh but that's what makes this game great. You can mix and match whatever works for you.

Ignition is so busted against grunts, especially given how quickly it recharges.

Phoenix is my go to, I’m at the point where I just beat Kupka the first time and got Titan and Phoenix has been my #1. Flames of Rebirth is just so powerful and I use the Phoenix Shift to close in on an enemy more than anything else
