I mean I’m not a fanboy. Doesn’t matter how excited I am for something, if I have issues with it I’m not gonna pretend otherwise.
I’m not one to be blinded by IP.
I am going to keep it real with Starfield lol
I mean…in your review you noted how poor most of the side quests, content, RPG mechanics, exploration and rewards, etc are yet you only docked it .5 points for all of that
If literally 90% of the gameplay amounts to .5 points to you then that’s fine but it matters much more to most people
You even said weird s*** like understanding why the game is easy as hell because “This is story based game where the pacing matters, and if you are sitting there dying to a boss 10-100 times to figure out it’s move set, it is going to break immersion”
Like what? The pacing of the game is objectively terrible and the structure is the same for 85% of the game and never improves.
You’re def looking at the game with rose tinted glasses for whatever reason then blame criticism on a loud minority.
It’s all good tho. As fans of the franchise let’s just hope they get their act together for 17
THEY SHOOTING
It’s crazy that most of us aren’t explicitly even asking for straight up turn based yet the default response to criticizing the combat is “lol turn based boomer”
Red bar enemies lack any type of aggression whatsoever. Boss attacks are extremely slow and telegraphed and not in a fake you out feint kind of way. Like most of them are just slow.
The best bosses are the ones that have you dodging 2 or 3 things simultaneously which actually makes you put just a little more thought into positioning.
Your core combat abilities are fully upgraded within the first few hours and never evolve past that (stinger, stomp, downward thrust, burning blade/charge magic). After that you’re just waiting hours to unlock a few new cooldown based abilities which can pretty much end trash encounters in seconds or you just save to dump during staggers vs bosses.
At least in like DMC there are several move upgrades and you’re still buying combat upgrades well into the game and adding things to your core arsenal
At the start of the game I fought everything. I remember walking towards Garuda but having to make time to kill every single harpy in that big ass field. But eventually this game got to a point halfway through where I actively hopped on my chocobo and avoided every single encounter unless I had to fight something for a quest or story.
We needed different weapon types, more moves, gear that changes your moves, something to keep it fresh for 50+ hours
If they had a lot more core combat abilities it would help the game a lot. It shouldnt be so carried by cool down abilities

I haven't finished but I'd say it's a good game and a great foundation, but not a great game
Ok so I had some time to digest and I think, that's just my personal opinion, FFXVI is better than XV. But it's not better than XV Royal Edition. Royal Edition is giving you so much content and the DLC episodes add so much depth and meaning. Every episode made me like the story more and more until I really loved it. Reading this now:

holy s*** have you played any other FF games?
every turn based FF is hard as s*** at certain parts
Yea I’ve played them all and a lot of them 10+ times. FF is my favorite series. They aren’t hard at all. When you think of FF, the games being hard is never something that comes to mind.
“I know what to create for them…but you have a whole audience of players that are maybe not used to this actually,” he says through a translator. “You have fans of the series and fans of the RPG genre. And we couldn’t just make a game for heavy action users. We need to make this game for everyone…and make sure that we include those players as well, so my highest priority was, again, creating something that was accessible to those users who had not played a lot in the action game genre.” -Suzuki on the combat
Y’all in here just saying whatever. If
You struggle w turn based battles in classic FF, get good honestly. I die once, maybe twice in turn based FF games the entire time. That’s if I’m not paying attention. They aren’t hard.
Out on the hate fest lmao. Again, the game had flaws but y’all in here doing too much.
GOTY.

FF15 does better on some side quests and extra content when you're not doing the main story.
But FF16 has many of the best boss battles in the series. The game has its flaws outside of the main story because theres just not much to do.
But are we all playing the same game? Taking down these big motherfuckers are top moments in gaming for me.
It's just everything else is kind of mid so it throws you off on how to judge the game.

Or I just disagree w you lol. Don’t gotta be wearing rose tinted glasses to enjoy this game, like many are. It has flaws, sure, but you writing novels about the flaws and completely disregarding what the game does well doesn’t make you right my guy.
The side quests in the new Zelda are a joke, the items are all pointless and break, it’s praised as a 10/10 game still. Souls combat is literally press r1 and dodge after finding move set, praised as god tier combat because you have to die 50 times to each boss and still 10/10 games.
It’s just fun to hate on FF games and easy at this point because of their past, but this game was all around great and gave me feelings at times I’ve never felt in gaming. GOTY.
Glad SE got their act together, Future of FF looks very bright if this is the foundation they have to build on.

I am going to keep it real with Starfield lol
Wish they would just drop Starfield and get focused on Elder Scrolls 6
No one asked for No Mans Sky 2 from them tbh

You can f*** a humanoid bear in Baulder’s Gate III, so it’s already a wrap for Starfield tbh.

I don’t know about FF16 being more fun.
GOW: R has more variety and has actual incentives to explore their open areas.
Also optional areas, and an entire zone that’s completely optional.

more fun for me. I like the anime like beginning of the story more than God of War 2018 or Ragnarok. Beginning hooked me more but I could easily understand someone thinking 2018 or Ragnarok clears this overall

Lol what are top tier games to you? You don’t seem to think anything is great.

Final Fantasy XVI is good
Skyrim is good but its not drop every year for 10 years good to me. Its a well constructed game
Fallout 3 I loved
but it really depends how you view top tier. I don't think Final Fantasy XVI is a bad game its a good game with flaws
I am saying I think Bethesda after their downturn with FO4 and so many people coming and going needed to do a new IP to unite vs another Fallout or Elder Scrolls immediately .
theyve wanted to do space for so long so I am in for it
