And how is giving TotK a 9 wild? In what way? This and FF16 are offering completely different experiences.

Also, I was LITERALLY one of the most hyped people in this entire f***ing thread, so you can’t accuse me of being a hater.
Maybe that’s had an effect on my perception of the game and as time passes I’ll look to it more positively, that’s just my gut instinct.
Given this team’s attention to XIV, maybe they’ll update the game and resolve some of these issues and make the game better.
Hell, point of comparison, I initially thought GoW: R was an 8. Over time that dipped down to a 7.5.

ragnarok & this game are structured very similarly actually
mashy combo combat with ai companions, where u switch ur weapons/eikons mid combo
linear story and locations u can go back and explore
massive story and cinematic bosses
in all those aspects tbh i think ragnarok delivers better
prettier environments, less monotonous quests, & the voice acting and facial animations are on another level.the canned animations in ff during side quests make me feel like im playing assassins creed

Finished it.
As a whole I’d rate it around a 6.5.
Definitely the best FF since 12, but the inconsistent pacing, filler main content, underdeveloped exploration, easy difficulty which renders the combat system into being fairly mindless ability spamming, significant narrative decline in the last act (essentially every JRPG finale cliche rolled up into one and done as on the nose as possible with absolutely 0 pivot to break convention), weak final villain, mostly dull dungeons, terrible crafting and reward systems, makes large parts of this game fairly mediocre.The Eikon battles for the most part are a highlight, though I found the final one to be fairly obnoxious in presentation, a lot of the participle effects at the point becoming overbearing imo.
I think it’s a pretty good game, but not one I see myself revisiting anytime soon, if at all.
(As an aside, I liked it a bit more than 7R, which I felt had even worse pacing).
EDIT:
Oh yeah, enemy variety was surprisingly disappointing as well, lot of recycled mini-bosses, sometimes within just a few hours of each other.
Also, the fact that Hunts ended up just being recolored bosses entirely, actively worse than 12’s (possibly even 15’s) while being a core component of the side content was not something I was expecting.

Fair enough. People’s perception of game ratings is warped anyway.
There’s a reason why the rating system on Metacritic is wholly different with games compared to all the other media they aggregate (music, movies, TV).

I agree that TOTK is a 9, hell I would argue it is even higher than that, but to then score this game a 6.5 is wild.
You could do the same over a***ytical BS for TOTK. Side quests are all a joke and arguably worse than FFXVI, the story is mostly told through finding optional tear drops on the world, the graphics are from 2010, the items are all pointless because they break, game runs at 20 fps half the time, etc.
It is just funny to me how Zelda/nintendo games in general get a pass for everything that other games get drilled an run through like a fine tooth comb for.
