Imma say this too, New York gotta get better with giving some shine to cats from North Jersey. Cookie Kawaii and Cakes Da Killa would be great for the club scene, Cookie makes Jersey Club which is always hard, and Cakes be making house music. S*** is a vibe. Mir Fontane been out killing it all throughout Jersey and in Philly. Also Topaz Jones is the future forreal, that nigga incredible as an all around artist. S*** even Mach-Hommy should be getting some kinda play with all the connects he got with Jay Z and Griselda.

Bottom line, it doesn't have to always be f***in drill music. And NJ and NY used to be tight. Realistically NY, NJ, and Philly all gotta link back up and get the east coast really popping again.

I don't think people are saying they are more popping than those Atlanta artists. Moreso just throwing Memphis in honorable mentions like Key Glock, Young Dolph (RIP), Moneybagg, Pooh Shiesty, Duke Deuce, NLE Choppa, and Blac Youngsta don't exist is pretty wild lol

Memphis has definitely done enough over the last few years to carve out a spot for themselves, I'd say they've earned their respect/recognition. Just find it weird to downplay them.

Nah. NY don't f*** with Jersey like that outside of Jersey City and Hoboken.

Even the Outlawz rode with Pac during the "East Coast/West Coast" war.

    We're in our own bubble.

It’s not downplaying them. There is a big scene bubbling in Memphis but they haven’t reached the same national attention of other major rap cities yet, once they do they will be one of the biggest for sure.

Maybe they don’t get the media coverage but the Memphis guys are putting up way more numbers than NY rappers.

He was comparing them to Atlanta, which the Memphis guys not on that level, not sure if they ever will hit that level. Had potential with Pooh, but he facing like 20 years in prison so his career is cooked, and Dolph was unfortunately killed. But they def have sold more and are more popular than the current NY rappers

  • Apr 19, 2022

ATL been ass outside of a few acts

  • Apr 19, 2022

of course he’s gonna say the city/genre he’s in has the most relevancy.

Hasn’t been a new guy for a couple years

The relevant ppl from Atlanta are the same like 5-10 who’ve been around for years now, but they’re all massive superstars. NY doesn’t have superstars like that but has way more newer up and coming artists

    Kinda a wash I think

NY has a bunch of artists that pop up and fizzle out, same as any major city, only difference is they haven't been able to keep a superstar. Pop Smoke likely would've been one

Atlanta has the same of artists that will catch on, but only 1 or 2 actually have lasting power like that mainstream wise.

I mean Future been around the longest, then Migos, transition to Thug, follow that up with 21 & Carti, and then most recently Baby and Gunna. Now think about all the other Atlanta rappers to come alongside those guys since Future, and there's been plenty that got hot for a little minute and then fizzled out.

If anything Atlanta is due for another hot act that sticks around right about now. JID got some popularity, Foogiano def could've been that if he ain't get locked up. On top of that there's always newer guys bubbling here.

Yea I’m from Atlanta so I was speaking from that position lol. Just saying I think Memphis is much closer to us than New York is rn. Florida is too
