Watched this too for this week, I think the risks he took by exploring other characters didn't pay and the length made the pace more heavy with the movie losing focus and steam despite him already havin' other movies three hours long...

What did you like about it so much? The boy was a creep, who I didn’t have any sympathy for even w the sad backstory and the girl was just straight up annoying from what I remember.

I thought the storytelling was excellent, insanely dense but accessible, and though the main character is an awful creep, the film twists you into strange moral shapes until you're along for the ride, that's what it did for me

Got really busy in the last two weeks so I’m just getting around to…

    WEEK 3

Infernal Affairs is a film that I’ve been wanting to see for quite some time. Although I’ve never seen The Departed (I know, I’ll get to it), I’ve always wondered how good something could be to inspire Scorsese of all people to remake it. And wow, this was quite a great film. The rich characters and edge of your seat tension make this movie something I didn’t think I would be so invested in. The story of Lau and Chan is crafted so well and got me to a point where I didn’t know who to root for. The undercover cop who fell deep into the Triad, or the undercover gang member who maybe wanted to turn his life around. The direction and editing caught my eye as well with this one. The editing is some of that early 2000s fast paced stuff but it brought some flare to what could’ve been your standard crime drama.

On one hand I could go watch The Departed now and see what Scorsese did with the material, but I am also really curious at how this story ended up turning into a trilogy. One thing is for sure, I will be engaging with this material more in the very near future.

Also if you do end up watching on Max, I didn’t catch it until after the film ended and it went back to the page but the banner image is a HUGE spoiler.

Week 4 Over The Rainbow: Three Colours Trilogy

Powerful trilogy. I’ve heard the praise over these movies for a while and this weeks prompt gave me the push to finally watch.

I think what impressed me the most was how unpredictable they were. Kept going in directions I didn’t expect but never anything I had to suspend belief for. Some of the plot points that were used to go from A to B could carry a whole movie on its own. And of course the use of the colors to connect with the theme was great.

Idk what the consensus ranking is but for me: White, Red, Blue

I was gonna do my rewatch of these for this week but I think I’ll only end up getting around to one of them lmao

Glad you liked them I thought they were great and deeply emotional films. My OG ranking was Blue, Red then White but as times gone on I find myself thinking of White a lot more than the rest

Blue was definitely the most emotional and maybe had the most sympathetic main character (debatable with Red) but White was just funny and entertaining watching this dude go from simp to fucboi

Red had my favorite ending not so much all of the characters surviving the ferry but the way her photo shoot pic mirrored her picture in the news

    8/10

A racist white dog enters racial rehab for attacking only black people. Can it be cured? Once a cac, forever a cac? This and Cujo are the best dog films ever made.
