Week 6 | Fantastic Planet (1971)
pretty cool movie. maybe i sound stupid but parts of it felt similar to dune part 2, but with a visual style closer to the lynch version

Black Dynamite
pretty good homage to those blaxploitation classics. made me want to watch more films from the 70s. Where's Scott Sanders and why isn't he directing more stuff??3.5/5

I Saw The TV Glow
was really excited about this one but honestly not sure if this really worked for me. the performances were just not working at all. visually speaking, this was pretty great and I think Jane does a good job of capturing that feeling of nostalgia but storywise... left a lot to be desired. I'll have to watch again before the year ends.

Inside Out 2
to preface, I've always liked Inside Out although I never really thought it was in the upper echelon of Pixar. With Inside Out 2, I sort of feel the same way. Now in comparison to other Pixar sequels, I think this is way better and there seems to be an actual purpose to this one existing. Puberty is a big deal and I loved the new emotions that are introduced here. I do feel like with this being about puberty, they held back a bit from doing more and I know I know, "It's Pixar!" "It's a kids movie!" that's true but also this movie feels way more adult than most "kids" films. like I feel like they intentionally made this more geared towards adults who have the ability to reminisce on that time in their lives so just feel like more could've been done in that aspect. good film tho

Cool three piece anthology, helmed by Akira's creator Katsuhiro Otomo. Couldn't decide if I liked the first or second one best. Third one (directed by Otomo) is decent, but definitely the weakest imo. The first short (Magnetic Rose) is also written by Satoshi Kon.

WEEK 6
A fun, artsy and ballsy heist movie placed during a trip to Italy. Very different atmosphere from the usual Miyazaki movies, maybe because the franchise needed something else, but the shades and colours couldn't be more recognisable, with his trademark fresh landscapes...
