Week 1: Late Night with the Devil (2024)
I’ve heard so much about this but avoided most of the trailers and only knew a bit of the premise. Really enjoyed the love for the late night format displayed throughout and how authentic to the time period the sets looked. Some of the effects were a cool some were meh. I kinda got super annoyed by how dumb some of the characters acted but overall it was an enjoyable movie
2.5/5
This is fair
week 1 was a success (Godzilla Minus One)
scariest looking Godzilla to date but not my favourite film out of the ones ive seen (that would still be Shin Godzilla)
i was born in 99
either gonna stick with the 90s and go Bad Lieutenant
or go super dusty and watch Drunken Angel (1948)
unless i steal someone else's pick itt
my pick is going to be scarface from 83’. was born in 98 but have been wanting to watch that movie for a hot minute.
Might check out this Ryan Gosling Drive movie I’ve heard so much about for this weeks prompt
Week 2 - Planet of the Apes (1968) (Born in 1997)
I’ve been on a Apes kick for the last two weeks so it only felt right to watch the original for the first time.
I have never seen the original Planet of the Apes but wow I wish I had seen this sooner. This film is much less an action film and more of a political sci-fi drama. There are heavy themes of science vs. religion which really elevate the material in my eyes. In comparison to the new series in which the Apes are the focal point, George Taylor takes the role of protagonist. With me having only seen the 2010s series and the newest installment Kingdom, this felt fresh to me. The ending is also more impactful in context. It is one of those endings that has been spoiled to death just by it being talked about in general, but its impact has always felt understated until seeing it within the context of the film.
This original Planet of the Apes really deserved all the praise and I am glad we are able to tell these stories into the present day. After seeing this, I am more than eager to dive into the rest of the original series of films.

Good pick. I was planning to binge the movies before watching the latest one too. I’ve only seen Rise & Dawn

Def watch War before Kingdom
But yeah after seeing Kingdom I felt like going to the OG series
If I can find time to continue the series soon I will

Will definitely watch the 2010 trilogy first
I’ve only seen Dawn on torrents and the ape language wasn’t translated. I thought it was just like that at first but then it was like long ass scenes with apes talking. So I missed a lot of the story in Dawn

This was what I watched, would probably rate it the same too. I love the aesthetic and that groovy 70’s jazz but as a horror film felt p weak. Meh
Between Ran by Kurosawa or the first Bond film for this week

Always think of Albert Brooks being the prototype of George Constanza from Seinfeld.
