I don’t know if this is blasphemy among Nas fans but honestly, I think I Am… is better than It Was Written

Nas’ reaches at the mainstream hit wayyyy better while still being true to himself as one of the best rappers and it’s got more of that late 90s swag that I love

Lyrically and theme wise each album so far has felt like an evolution and the next chapter for Nas as he gets bigger and more prominent in hip hop

The features are great this time as well having more bigger names but less in general, they all carry their weight though especially DMX and Scarface, wasn’t too crazy about the Aaliyah collab though, something about it just wasn’t hitting for me

Nas storytelling across these albums just gets better and better too, NY State Of Mind 2 and We Will Survive are great examples same with Undying Love just being an insane story with some real life parts thrown in

Album isn’t entirely perfect though some of the tracks near the end just start to get a bit too goofy for me, I think im just not a fan of Nas love songs, Dr Knockboot is a good example

Overall though this is a very good addition to his discography and I don’t see why this was disliked at the time

Favourite Tracks: NY State Of Mind 2, Hate Me Now, We Will Survive, I Want To Talk To You, Life Is What You Make It, Big Things, Nas Is Like, Undying Love

Least Favourite Tracks: K-I-SS-I-N-G, Dr. Knockboot, Money Is My B****

    8.5/10

That is a WILD take but I can respect it

But how can I Am… be better then It Was Written if you gave it an 8.5 versus the 9 you gave IWW? Wouldn’t it have to be a 9.5 to be better?

Yeah I get it. You just have to make that super clear cuz people are going to question that.

I like the title track of Nastradamus "you wanna ball 'til you fall, I can help you with that" which set off a lot of s*** to come...

but as an album hahaha...this was a miss but it sets way for a great comeback story.
