I love the whole album but Tales, Numb Numb Juice, Dangerous, CrasH and Attention especially are all top tier tracks

Yeah apparently this album was 100% ready to go, but everybody at TDE sat and listened to it and told him to scrap it cuz it sounded too much like Blank Face LP. Shame it got scrapped for CrasH Talk, although CrasH Talk has 5-6 great tracks.

Also surprised nothin has ever leaked from these sessions. I would kill to hear a few of these tracks.

Fr? I remember the Kendrick ones obviously and a few demos for All The Stars and Chopstix leaked but I don’t remember the other Q ones. Were they worth looking for?

He said Kendrick and other TDE members made him scrapped this album.

Seems like Q never learned the subtle life lesson of people want to see you doing good... but not better than them.

Niggas made him scrap whatever this was but f***ing Crash Talk was all good and ready to go? Yea ok

DAMN. was a huge success for them so they tried to implement the formula on Rock and Q. It worked somewhat for Rock (they pulled every trick in the book to make it work), but it didn’t with Q and that might’ve made everybody else who had a more commercial type album lined up on the label take a step back and reevaluate. And the coronavirus hit and Top stopped everyone from dropping because he wants his artist to tour for their album releases.

My personal belief is that after he scrapped Blank Face pt. 2, he struggled to come up with a concept and just started making a bunch of songs thinking he would have a “lightbulb” moment with a concept, but it never happened and he just decided to have the concept be NO concept. That’s why certain tracks have Kendrick in a deep voice saying “CrasH Talk take 1, 2 or 3”. Every “take” was a new attempt at trying to come up with “the album”, but it never happened. Basically just becoming a glorified compilation like Starboy.

Idk I mean it’s really not the best idea to try the same formula with every artist on a label

It makes way more sense (especially for label like TDE) to just let artists maintain their own vision and go with it, way better strategy in a long run
Not everyone should go extra-commercial unless artist has a clear vision on how he can pull it off

Now they put themselves in the position where label image is kinda ruined compared to pre-DAMN stuff and it’s honestly a shame because people still fw TDE artists a lot and they all still have juice in them

I wouldn't say it's ruined just deflated. Like Vice City-era That Part remix-era TDE looked unstoppable then they started slackin on everybody but kendrick

Don’t remember since it’s been a long time I’ve listened to them and don’t have it with me anymore. But there was like 3-4 other songs that were supposedly from 2016-2017, but only like 2 of them were good imo

What’s interesting is at the same time those songs have heavy H&C vibes too

I don’t think Zay is struggling to come up with a concept or struggling to make good music, I think he’s just trying to make a “masterpiece” and his expectations for greatness are ridiculously high. He played one snippet on IG live back in March/April and it sounded AMAZING.

The problem with a lot of CrasH Talk wasn’t necessarily the sound. DJ Dahi brought great production to the table, I think Q was just uninspired rapping wise and just phoned it in partially.

The biggest issue with CrasH Talk was the lack of Q’s identity and what made him so special on previous releases. He’s seemed to get his mojo back with his excellent recent features though.

I agree, Q sounded bored like most of the time lmao, I just hope his next work will be back to form and not anymore of fishing for radio plays

TDE the last couple years in general has just been slacking. They used to run circles around Dreamville, but Dreamville has had a couple good years. Hell the only reason why we’re starting to see TDE awaken again is because the fans are getting visibly pissed on social media.
