They've been selling a narrative that we suffered together and now...Man...
Apparently it was their support OF the south that made the North withdraw their treaties and start conquering the lands they once had, because f*** em. This has changed everything for me.
EDIT : Not saying "fuck the native Americans" I'm saying that's how the North treated the treaties. Also when I say I lost my pity I mean it's time to stop trying to figure out who was the good and bad guy and move forward with ourselves with no hatred over the past.
World history is complicated
They prob viewed the CSA winning as a better alternative for themselves than staying under the USA
OP is a good example of how poorly history is taught tho and how its taught in an overly personal way.
They prob viewed the CSA winning as a better alternative for themselves than staying under the USA
No, read the article. They just didn't want to give up their slaves.
this isn't common knowledge, everyone i've told about this have been surprised
you'd think they'd support the AA slaves as they were also overpowered by the British... people are weird
I guess it's not really talked about because the response to "Our people were wiped out because of the White man" being "Wasn't it because y'all didn't want to give up your slaves?" might be kind of mean

This is partially true from the Natives perspectives a new government was a new opportunity to reset their standing in the country.
Also alot of Natives just didn't view Africans as people the same way most Americans didn't view them as people.
It's nice to think "it's us against the white people" but it isn't. People often times if low ranked will support lowering someone else if it means keeping their standing.
This is less a mark against the Natives and more an example of how majorities societal rules affect minorities under them.
There were different tribes that were pitted against each other by either side and all of them were still tossed aside immediately after the war yes

hm u were right I think its an important distinct that it was mainly the 5 "civilised" tribes that all were in the south rather than the native Americans in Cali or New England.
when I say Native Americans I guess it comes with an unspoken rule I'm talking about the continental USA

trueeee

It isn't brought up cause school history is controlled by feelings and a million other things.
If we taught history more objectively and less euro-centric you'd know this.
They don't talk about the Natives in the civil war the same reason they don't talk about Asian settlers being here for a long time.
Anyone not white gets a role in US history the black people are slaves,Asians railedroad workers and Natives savages.
So discussion of people or thing outside of that isn't really permitted
African Americans had white slaves too!
Africans inspired the White men to have slaves because we used to enslave each other in tribes in Africa.
F***ed up.
Even to this day a lot of natives don’t f*** with niggas.
POC solidarity is a joke. Maybe it might be different with our gen tho. We’ll see

If we realize all humans have been awful through each other through all of human history maybe we'd actually find common empathy and understanding.
