This thing is pretty scathing but also only bolsters the ‘we’re so back, absolute opus otw’ feelings within me tbh

Coppola knows that it’s going to be a tough sell. If you can’t find anyone other than yourself to produce it, you’ll also struggle to find people to distribute it.

Unflinchingly batshit
The vibes are back
this isn’t something one should admit
Well I’m admitting.
I think FFC is not nearly as good as most of his contemporaries.

we've literally never been so back

I’m considering biting on this, but first I’d like to know how many of his films you’ve seen & who you consider a direct contemporary
Crazy how we’re about to get a new FFC film this year
Some of our great grandparents were literally alive watching the godfather in cinemas lol
I can’t believe these are all dropping in the same year and we just got dune 2. Blockbusters are f***ing back
Cinema is at a great place compared to a few years ago man, those Avengers years were painful

This sounds like a classic in every way

idk I kinda like batshit crazy lol
If it's just random s*** happening with no cause or effect then that's different

So this either gonna be a classic or a mess with no direction whatsoever.
It's a day 1 watch regardless.

I’ve seen most of his movies and im not about to run down the list of all of his movies but i find that about 2/3rd of his ovure is pretty bland. Movies like The Outsiders, Jack, Peggy Sue Got Married, Rainmaker, Twixt and more are just OKAY and personally boring and felt incredibly uninspiring and not all interesting. Felt like they could have been made by anyone.
The Godfather 1 & 2 are good. But I’ve never really understood the hype. They should have been TV mini series. Godfather 2 is obviously good. But yeah idk never felt strongly about them.
Ironically The Conversation being the height of his auter is still boring and not at all interesting.
Dracula wasn’t bad but again just idk just sort of whatever.
His work has never inspired me or interested me.
Direct contemporaries (American)
Terrance Malik
Martin Scorsese
Stanley Kubrick
Roman Polanski
John Cassavetes
Orsen Wells
Brian Del Palma
Paul Shrader
Abel Ferrara
Steven Spielberg (which I do not enjoy the most but he is undeniably more influential than FFC)
FFC can’t hold a flame to any these filmography’s. IMO
Edit: I’ve never met anyone and including my kino friends that’s been like “FUCK YEAH LETS WATCH A FFC FILM”

Skipped over Apocalypse Now, Godfather p3, Rumble Fish, One from The Heart, Tetro…

Godfather Part. 3
I said wasn’t going to go over the entire filmography. That’s exhausting. And so is watching it.
Edit: Rumble Fish? Tetro was better. One from the heart is still OKAY. None of his movies except for the Godfather 1 & 2 are that great.

classing the conversation as his best film is taking me out more than most of this for whatever reason lol, anyway watch the rain people & rumble fish if you haven’t, and the godfather 1 & 2 are among the most influential things ever put to film, obviously I disagree with pretty much all of this but respect your opinion
The fact that I see the opinion of how the Godfather movies should've been TV series being uttered more is why I say cinema is dead. It starts from the brainrot of the people.
