you’re in the minority in a frank ocean thread. your perspective is not relatable to the average frank ocean fan, much less the average person who maybe went to a show or two over the years.
I’ve been to several festivals and shows including coachella three times so I think I have a decent grasp on what to reasonably expect from an artist, group, band etc. frank ocean didn’t just fail to meet expectations based off his own prior shows; he went out of his way to disrespect his fans.
have you ever seen frank ocean live? I have, despite not mentioning it until now. guess where I saw him? coachella!

I was in that audience. does this bolster my argument? not really, but I hope it makes you think twice before you presume to enlighten.
This is OK copy pasta material lol
The White Ferrari electronic beat at Coachella is actually in the original song (faintly) if you listen closely at 56 seconds
this set is aging so beautifully. a coachella headliner who performed for his little bro and no one else.

Ryan's version

He's got an older version but the newest one been quoted again on this page
What is the difference between the older and newer version?
there is something very screwy about this "nights and nikes" situation. I've seen multiple videos and several posts claiming he didn't sing "nights and nikes." he didn't sing chanel either, nor the inner child part. 4 songs, not 2.
I know I said I'd do the math on how many minutes of his set were actually spent singing, but I really don't want to revisit this again. Rough math tells me this much: 15 min dj set + the 4 songs I mentioned = roughly half an hour, and the set was an hour and change long. then subtract the awkward pauses, talking etc, and 30 minutes of singing starts to sound generous.
im alright with him not actually singing in regard to the nightlife cover because it was actually the only piece of entirely new material he did despite it being a cover. also because there was some performance art accompanying. i totally get what you mean though and i do agree that overall the set was a failure even if i personally liked it

i actually think that being divisive is a good spot for him especially compared to where the weeknd, drake and kendrick lamar are at with the public

That’s wild
I was wondering if it was a older version or version that got scrapped

His set was the most excited I’ve been by something music related in a long time, loved it so much

I do think it’s the version that Ryan said he preferred
I was the dog breathless chasing the car up the street
If I ever catch it I'll panic, that's the flaw in me
Everyone is overreacting. He’s going to work on other projects and release the album when it’s time. This was a very deliberate move on his part - not intentionally putting on a controversial show but definitely once things weren’t going his way.
Unlike most terrible performances from artists who just sound bad, off pitch and one dimensional, this was Frank’s best vocal performance since probably Paris in 2014. He just threw in the towel from a production standpoint.
The negative reaction from this set isn’t the reason for the silence, him and his team always work this way.
Lowkey right. He could be a bit pitchy on those 2017 shows
