every major artist is very personal and uptight about their work, so i think he just is gonna wait for the time to be right when he’s made a body of work that says everything he wants to say.

i think the difficulty is just finding what y l say. when you have that much eyes on you but wanna preserve your privacy, i can imagine dropping a record close to your brothers death will always be lingering in the back of your mind. i imagine he doesn’t want his next body of work to be attatched to such a tragedy. given the style of music he makes i can imagine it being pretty easy for fans to over a***yze everything and be like THIS RUGHT HERE IS HIM MOURNING!!

what’s the point. he’s made a brand of himself being this mysterious and closed off to the world. still mourning a great loss i imagine. more money than most songwriters who came up like him in the industry. probably can sustain the lifestyle of living in new york and traveling indefinitely.

there’s just no point to release anything unless he genuinely wants to. he’s probably got months worth of material locked away, on a couple of drives.

when the time is right he’ll drop, i just can’t imagine an artist this young never releasing, but i do think he takes great pride in having complete authority over his creative work. rare for any artist but most especially a black artist

every songwriter in the industry gushed over it. crazy hot lead single with also well performing singles. lost was traditional, pyramids not so much.

also it co insided with him coming out at a time that was very different from now. queerness wasn’t as… trendy to say especially for black men. hell trans discourse in the public wasn’t anywhere near as prevalent as it was. it was only between trans folk, college and tumbr kids.

blond was huge bc it was this crazy genre bending work that was equally as popular as it was inventive. and r&b record that had drums as sparse as that one, underground artists of all kinds of genres working on it. it was a monumental moment, but CO was incredibly massive as well
