i think when it’s all said and done, the quintessential frank ocean track will be ivy. i love pyramids but it might turn some off with its long runtime. nights is basically ppl fighting over which part they like better and pink + white a little too safe for it be the frank track.
ivy tho.. man it sounds like what a 2025 beatles track would sound like. i really really wish i could know franks thought process behind it because any other artist would have slapped drums on this and called it a day.
the atmosphere is so airy, so light and it’s such a gorgeous collage of youth, heartbreak, nostalgia and regret. the vocal layering, the sneaky baseline creeping up behind the air guitars, the absolute heart melting guitar plucks that sound like they’re coming from 1985 aw man.. the production choices behind it are so good, critics still don’t know what to label this as - wiki has genres i’ve never seen before on a track - “avant r&b” ?? wtf is that but so right lol. we’re still debating what genre blonde really is till this day but ivy, oh ivy..

https://twitter.com/DiscussingFilm/status/1532133897148014593Last I heard was Frank ghosted his agent who was in contact with one of actors who auditioned (no joke) so neither the agent nor actor knew what was going on. This was after Coachella.
